Why so disappointed with the package? The two songs are what they are, the design is always nice.

No arguments there. I think that people were just expecting something a bit special and out of the ordinary for the very last package (even, the 20th anniversary package had a nice little commemorative booklet). Given those expectations, this one seems a bit "phoned in."

If mine had come with that, I'd be very, very happy, too.

Does anyone know which 2008 shows these songs were taken from?

SPOILER
Twickenham ("Perfect Circle") and Mexico City ("Life And How To Live It")
"We were listening to the UNC radio (station) there and they were playing an R.E.M. song. I like R.E.M. fine, but at the end of it, the DJ says, 'Ya that was R.E.M., the sound of the new South'. I looked at my roommate and we said, Gawd, if that's the sound of the new South, I preferred it when it was on the skids. That's how we got the name."

Condescend much? I appreciate their art as much as anyone, but they are what they are and they
have what they have because of their fans. Yes, I expected something a little more personal for the people who stuck with the band 'til the end. I won't apologize for that. But thanks for the lecture.
That someone just pulled me up and out of cartoon quicksand.

Thanks...I totally overlooked that on the label. It's kinda cool having something from the last show of what appears to be their final tour.

While I think that we all could have created our "dream" send off fan club mailing, I am simply pleased that they went ahead and went through with the mailing. That being said, I also believe that the band's enthusiasm in what they were doing is most honestly tracked through what they sent to us on an annual basis. The lack of Stipe participation and the use of live tracks has not been lost on me, but as a fan old enough to have been there from the beginning, each year of their existence past the normal band shelf life has simply been a plus. Nothing lasts forever!
The main reason for my post, however, is to simply share my appreciation for those running the fan club who kept my name in the pool even though my end date was the day before the breakup. How did I learn of the breakup? When attempting to reup my sub for the year on the 21st. That kind gesture from those connected to the band is what I think best epitomizes their view of the fans--and for that I am appreciative.

Agreed. The folks who run the fan club and who man the Athens office are awesome.

Yes indeed and well said. They really care and do so much!
I'm happy with my package and was thrilled when I got it the other day! LOVE the two live songs! I know that R.E.M. didn't really have to send a last one. So glad they did and I'm truly going to miss them. Their music has always brightened up my days and touched my soul.
Missing my favorite band and I wish them all well!

My hubby and I received our packages yesterday, and we love them. I have played the single a couple of times, it's nice, despite being live songs. I suppose the pics in the calendar must have been taken by Michael? At least that's what they look like.

I dont think I said anything condescending at all ?
When you say 'stuck with the band until the end' what do you mean? If I've misunderstood you and you worked for them or something then I sincerely apologise, if you mean by 'stuck with the band til the end' you spent $8 on their last cd then I really don't . I'm just trying to work out why they should be thanking you, thats all.

I mean no disrespect at all, but it that legit? Seems an awfully heavy item to be posting out.
Give me a minute and I'll tell you the setup for the worst joke ever

I have recieved the fanclub single today as well, and like everyone else, am slightly disappointed for the last one, it could have been a really special one, with a surprise or two
but as always, i am so grateful to the band for giving to us over 24 years, the great expectation every xmas - I'll never forget getting the 1992 single Where's Captain Kirk? - what a cool song!!, and the packaging has always been awesome.
Thank you so much!
To everyone, get Pearl Jam's live CD from Calgary, with Eddies version of It Happened Today in glorious soundboard - this has to be the best tribute to the band - man i wish we got to hear Michael wail on this one!
