What a great show! It was tons of fun and all of the bands put a unique spin on some classic R.E.M. tunes. I think that Kevin and David playing "That Someone is You" and Mike leading everyone in an encore of "Superman" were definitely the highlights of the show for me. Everyone did a really fantastic job, though. Thanks so much to all who made the show possible, and to Jordan and Ethan for the videos.

This could be the <strike>saddest</strike> happiest dusk you've ever seen.
Wish I'd flown over.

I haven't watched all the clips yet but of the half dozen or so that I have watched, it seems a lot of the performers stuck to the original arrangements of the songs. I think the ones I've liked most so far are Corduroy Road's countrified version of "Pop Song '89" and Kevn Kinney's (of Drivin n' Cryin') 8 minute plus take on "Maps and Legends". I understand this was being professionally filmed. If so, I certainly hope it sees the light of day at some point.
"We were listening to the UNC radio (station) there and they were playing an R.E.M. song. I like R.E.M. fine, but at the end of it, the DJ says, 'Ya that was R.E.M., the sound of the new South'. I looked at my roommate and we said, Gawd, if that's the sound of the new South, I preferred it when it was on the skids. That's how we got the name."

It was so great to see Mike at The tribute show and the listening party. I thought the highschool band 706 was very good. And how cool that David Bell and Kevin O'Neil performed That someone Is You. The show was fun and of course Mike joining in made it all the more merrier.
One of my highlights of last night was getting to meet Bill Berry at Cine'. I was just about to take a photo of one of the R.E.M. framed pictures in the entry way when Bill walked in with his family. I said Hello to him and thanked him for all his years in the band. Bill looked at me and said, "I know how you feel". Amazing.
I accidently bumped into Michael's Mother. I told her I was sorry and she gave me a smile. You can tell she's a sweet woman. The Stipe clan was there but not Michael. I imagine he may have been bombarded if he showed up. He could of handled it.
My friends and I said Hello to Mike at the Listening Party and of course he was a perfect gentleman giving us his time to take pictures with him and autograph things. We had a bit of an issue when my friend Frances couldn't get the camera to snap the picture. We apologized to Mike and he said, we can take all the time we need. He than told Frances how to function that particular camera. LOL Very cool. Mike sure was squeezing me hard and pulling me close in the picture. Such a great guy.
At the end Mike looked like he was enjoying watching his own videos.
It was awesome how much money was raised last night at the auctions. I bidded on an In Time boxset and was the highest bid. It came with a fairly large poster of the In Time album art and an R.E.M. newspaper of The Morning Team. Cool collectors items.
I was so happy I got to go to all the parties and I left feeling so proud of the band.

I was at the listening party last night, and thought I saw Michael sitting with his parents and wearing a green shirt. I recognized them sitting on the bench near the bathrooms. I only saw the person briefly, but really thought it was Michael. Did anyone else see him?

Hey, Stipeeyes, I witnessed your Berry interaction - very cool indeed! His son is the spitting image of him - so cute and polite.

Spying on me Eh? Kidding. I might remember you now. His son is very cute. Bill is quite the Gentleman too. So I officially met all four of the guys so that completes the square.

Michael wasn't there. If he was everyone would of said, There is Michael. There was a guy with a shaved head walking around that could possibly be a relative or friend. You might have saw him.

Not Michael but someone related.
It was a fun and very emotionally draining few days. I am forever in gratitude of the chance to be part of it with everyone.

What an exciting and fun time in Athens last night! Nice meeting you all!
Words cannot express how happy I was to be there to celebrate!!! I did in my own way (cause I'm VERY shy) and even tho' I was really sad at the end of the night, there was still a whole lot of joy in my heart as well.
It was amazing finally getting the chance to meet and talk to Mike Mills! He's a sweet guy! He seemed so interested in the fans. He even asked me where I was from and when I said, North Carolina, he asked me what I did here in NC and I told him I was a preschool teacher and he said that was great!!! He signed my Chronic Town cd cover with a cool message!!!
THANKS TO R.E.M.!!!! ....for their blessed music, cool vibes and for being so inspiring to me all these years! I'm truly grateful and happy to experience such an awesome musical adventure with my favorite band all these years and years!
Peace & Love,

I'm back in Seattle now after a whirlwind 72 hours of travel and time in Athens. Our flight into ATL ended up being delayed for 6 hours due to a mechanical problem. We had a 6am flight so we had decided against seeing Peter perform with John Wesley Harding the night before. Total bummer to find out we could have seen the show after all! By the time we got into Athens and to the Georgia Theater, the last band was up. Just in time to catch Mills' singing, so I was grateful for that much!
The following night at the Cine event, it was indeed wonderful to see Bill Berry. I didn't actually get a chance to speak with him, but just seeing him there was enough! The listening party at the 40 Watt was awesome! Everyone I met including the fan club staff, Bertis, and friends of the band were kind and gracious. I did get to meet Mike at the end of the night and had a nice little chat with him and a photo. He's a genuinely nice guy and I'm thrilled to finally have met him.
I don't know who it was, but an older woman (maybe Mike's mother? Michael's?) gently took my shoulder and turned it so she could read my tattoo and show her friend. She said to me, "Now that's a true fan!" It was cute because she was this tiny lil' older woman.
I made a valiant effort to win Michael's music stand and a lyric sheet signed by him at the live auction. Instead I went home with a copy of CIN vinyl signed and framed via the silent auction. All said and done, its the memories made that night mean the most. I'm so very happy that I got to meet up with old friends, meet new ones, and be amongst those whom share a true love of R.E.M. for one last time.
