I was talking to a teacher of mine who watches Colbert all the time, and he said that Colbert uses a bunch of pre-recorded clips of Michael on the shelf talking back to him and throws them in new episodes every once in a while. :P
It's all here where I keep it, it's all in the yellow submarine, yellow submarine, yellow submarine...

Pre-precorded? Nah, I think he sits there every night. He's got nothing else to fill his days with now that he's retired you know, much less anything to earn his income from.
