Side One – "Air side" Side Two – "Metal side"
"We were listening to the UNC radio (station) there and they were playing an R.E.M. song. I like R.E.M. fine, but at the end of it, the DJ says, 'Ya that was R.E.M., the sound of the new South'. I looked at my roommate and we said, Gawd, if that's the sound of the new South, I preferred it when it was on the skids. That's how we got the name."

World Leader Pretend is one of my all time favorites. Is such a masterpiece.

The voice of Stipe in You Are the Everything, is just amazing.

And to me, The Green World Tour was the best tour R.E.M. ever played

:)

It seems like there was an ad for the album saying to buy Green and to go out and vote on November 8, 1988. Anyone have one of those stashed away in their archives?

I like Green very much: there many great songs in it. such as You Are the Everything, World Leader Pretend (btw: it remimds me not only of Reagan but also of the crazy man who has also detroyed Italy), The Wrong Child (great Michael's performance), Hairshirt, The 11th untitled song which always moves me)....

It wasn't a video, it was a print advertisement. I'm sure it ran in Rolling Stone and other music publications back in the day.

Haha, we posted our threads at the exact same time! (And thinking about it now I probably did so after seeing your post on Facebook.)

Here's the infamous satellite broadcast presentation for Warners employees, from October 13 the same year:

And an interview from the same year, also filmed in Athens:

Yep, I think it said "Two things to do November 8; vote and buy R.E.M. - Green" or something along those lines.

Wasn't there also another one that said "Stipe says: Vote smart. Vote Dukakis"?

In the Rolling Stone interview Stipe says something about not getting "Bushwhacked", and I do recall the ad as Sweden does. I had one in my locker (I was in Gr 12).

Ah, you're right... It said "Stipe says: Don't get bushwacked. Vote smart. Vote Dukakis"
