Well, now that none of us will likely ever see R.E.M. perform again (reunion tour! reunion tour!), I figure it's time for the final, "How Many Times Have You Seen R.E.M. Live?" thread.

For me, it was 12. Which wasn't NEARLY enough.

With an assist from the REM Timeline (http://www.remtimeline.com/) and some searching through Murmurs posts and emails, I came up with my list, with set lists:

***

1. Monster Tour

Was lucky to see REM in a few unusual locations:

Cardiff Arms Park
Murrayfield Stadium, Edinburgh
Jools Holland Special, BBC, London
Stirling Castle
MEN Arena, Manchester
Old Trafford Cricket Ground, Manchester
Glasgow Green

I also had tickets for SECC (and possibly NEC) in 1995 but they got cancelled when Bill got ill.

Best experience? Hmm...Grand Hotel, Stockholm fanclub show was pretty amazing. Olympia was awesome. All in all I've been very lucky to see the band in small venues quite a number of times thanks to the fanclub. I've also been lucky enough to met Peter and Mike maybe six or seven times, Michael four or five times, and all four of them including Bill in Athens in 2009. The aftershow party after the Cologne 2001 show was a pretty surreal experience... What a ride!

Just six times, but I'm not complaining because it's much more that I dreamt for, when my R.E.M. fandom started.

Would be more interesting if people described how good the show was/certain moments etc :)

1999-Earls Court (second night). Band performed really well, but the crowd was seriously flat. Still, was my first R.E.M show and they played Country Feedback too, so all was good.

2003- Marlay Park, Dublin (both nights)- Got to meet a load of people from the site who were really nice. The crowd was so good, I remember one moment Mike was so taken back he just paused and said... "fecking hell". The second night probably had a better setlist, but I thought the band were more into it first night (especially Mike who was kind of subdued).

Also got to meet Michael Stipe the day before the concerts. All day my dad was teasing me when anyone remotely bald walked past "look it's Michael Stipe". Then we happened to walk past the Clarence Hotel in late afternoon, and my dad again said ... look it's Michael Stipe.... and I just shrugged (it wasn't funny in the first place....) eventually looked behind, and low and behold it was the man himself coming out of a taxi.

He was really nice to me, I was pretty nervous and had brain fog, but asked him how the previous night went in Manchester, to which he replied "awesome". He stayed for a photo/video.... I asked for an autograph, but he said "how about a handshake instead?" which I caught on video. A really nice guy and exceeded my expectations :)

Erm... where next.

2004 Oxfam Benefit- I think this was prior to the release of ATS. I remember thinking how amazing Boy In The Well sounded and couldn't wait to hear it on record. Chris Martin came on for MOTM & the crowd was great. That said, i think they only played 4-5 songs.

2005-Hammersmith Apollo. One of the best shows i've seen. Despite the backlash towards ATS, the band were amazing. They kicked off with I Took Your Name and while it was nowhere near as polished as later performances throughout the year, it somehow made it all the more powerful. I remember High Speed Train sounding incredible. All the ATS songs sounded 100% better.

2005-Sheffield. Obviously the first night Mike wasn't there. They played three acoustic songs, which was good of them, but still felt a little underwhelmed considering how far I traveled to be there.

2005 Sheffield-Rescheduled= Good show, I think they played Leave which was great. But the crowd were dead, and I think the band found it hard to feed off them at times. Not the most memorable of shows.

2005 Hyde Park- Last show of the tour. Despite the fact I had heard End Of The World thousands of times, they opted not to play it on that tour. So when they decided to play it this night, the crowd went delirious. Patti Smith came on for an awkward Ebow The Letter. Was more of a festival crowd in my opinion, and at times the band sounded flat.

2007 Dublin Rehearsals Night 5- One of the best shows i've ever been to. Met Scott, Peter, Bill R prior to the gig. You all know the setlist, but I never thought i'd see the band play in such an intimate theatre. Highlights-Romance, Living Well Is The Best Revenge, Pretty Persuasion.

2008- Royal Albert Hall- Enough has been said about this show, and Peter even accepted some of the criticism later on. I think a lot of the frustration was aimed at the fact that, fine, they played the new songs and hits for radio 2. But when the broadcast ended, Michael said... ok we are going to play what we want to play now. And ended up playing Imitation Of Life, DJ and MOTM. Was a letdown considering the venue, and the potential. Michael sounded fantastic, and i thought they just didn't play to their potential here.

2008 Twickenham- Last show I saw, and it was amazing. Other than the Olympia, the best setlist and I don't think i've ever seen the band as tight. Played a load of Document songs, wake up bomb, perfect circle. If you youtube Living Well Is The Best Revenge-twickenham, you will get a fair idea what I mean. Great show.

Anyway, sorry for boring you all, and how badly that's all written. But I just put down memories as they came to my head. May edit this later, haha.

I saw them 16 times

1999: Dublin (Lansdowne Road), Manchester (MEN Arena)
2003: Dublinx2 (Marlay Park)
2005: Dublinx3 (The Pointx2, Lansdowne Road), Belfast (Odyssey Arena), Cardiff (Millennium Stadium)
2007: Dublinx3 (Olympia Theatre)
2008: Londonx2 (Royal Albert Hall, Twickenham), Verona, Geneva

all outstanding shows/rehearsals :)  I regret not going to their final Dublin show in, em, I forget....the Oxegen Fest.  Punchestown?  Yeah.  Geneva was my last show and it was great but....no, I don't want to say.  Best show?  Impossible to say - they were all so good! - but Twickenham is a particular fave :)  Probably because of an amazing version of Country Feedback :)  Perfect Circle too :)

Does anyone have a recording of their 2005 Cardiff show?  it's the one show I was at that I don't have on disc and I'd love to hear it again!  It was the one and only time I saw Nightswimming!

2003: Berlin

I became a R.E.M. fan very late in life and this was my first concert. At this time I didn´t know the most of the songs they played.
Weather wasn´t good and I had a place far away from stage.
But it was the beginning of a great and unforgettabele time as R.E.M. fan. :)

2005: Berlin, Magdeburg, Dresden

Like in 2003 I was alone on the way to these gigs.
To get a good place I was in Berlin timely (2 pm). After a waiting time of ca. 30 minutes I was frozen to ice. It was February and too cold for waiting outside for hours. When the doors openend I had a good place to start the long way to the stage. But my frozen legs could not run as fast as my head and my heart wanted to do it.

In Magdeburg I heard the first something about the fan club.

2007: Dublin (Night 1 + 2)

When we got the information about the rehearsals it was a spontaneous decision to buy tickets for night 1+2. You need to know, I really have a big fear of flying. But my love to the band was the winner. It was my first flight. And it was the first time I was on the way with other R.E.M. fans. They all were a great help that I have survived the flights to Dublin and back to Berlin.
This weekend was very special. I´m so glad I did it.

2008: Dresden, Berlin, Stuttgart, Loreley, Wuerzburg, Oberhausen, Hamburg, Munich

Maybe the best summer in my life. On the way through the country with wonderful people.

2008: Erfurt (Wetten, dass ….)

2010: Berlin (on stage with Patty Smith)

I had my ticket for months. I had great luck that R.E.M. was in Berlin the same time. :)
Good place in front row. It seemed that all the R.E.M. guys (especially Michael) were very relaxed on stage. What a night.

I´m grateful for all these concerts and that the band played so many of their early songs in Dublin and during the tour in 2008.

Would be more interesting if people described how good the show was/certain moments etc :)

Agreed. I've done it so many times on Murmurs I felt it was redundant. But good call. I'll get around to writing my experiences down at a later date for a long blog post or something. I feel positively blessed by some of the experiences I've had.

Twelve times and I'm quite alright with that even though there were plenty of other opportunities to see them prior to 1986 (the Pier, Memorial Auditorium, Meredith College, etc.) in my area as well as when they played multiple nights in the area or when they played out of the way places such as Trask Coliseum in Wilmington. I feel very fortunate to have seen them at all, especially when there's fans out there that only got to see one show or absolutely none at all. I believe the only time they ever missed playing NC on a tour was during the tour for Around the Sun when they dropped the opening concert on that tour in Raleigh to take part in the Vote For Change tour. That's what led me to see them out of state for the very first time.

As suggested, I'd like to come back to these to add some thoughts on each one but for now, here's a list of the shows I've seen over the years:
  • November 15, 1986 Cameron Indoor Stadium, Duke University, Durham, NC (with Let's Active)
  • October 3, 1987 - Cameron Indoor Stadium, Duke University, Durham, NC (with 10,000 Maniacs)
  • April 22, 1989 - Dean Smith Center, Chapel Hill, NC (with Drivin' n' Cryin')
  • November 10, 1989 - Greensboro Coliseum, Greensboro, NC (with Pylon)
  • November 10, 1995 - Dean Smith Center, Chapel Hill, NC (with Luscious Jackson)
  • August 27, 1999 - Walnut Creek Amphitheatre, Raleigh, NC (with Wilco)
  • September 21, 2003 - Austin City Limits Music Festival, Zilker Park, Austin, TX
  • October 10, 2003 - Alltel Pavilion at Walnut Creek, Raleigh, NC (with Pete Yorn)
  • October 22, 2004 - Ryman Auditorium, Nashville, TN (with Trent Dabbs)
  • October 23, 2004 - Gwinnett Arena, Atlanta, GA (with Now It's Overhead)
  • June 10, 2008 - Walnut Creek Amphitheatre, Raleigh, NC (with the National and Modest Mouse)
  • June 21, 2008 - Lakewood Amphitheatre, Atlanta, GA (with the National and Modest Mouse)

"We were listening to the UNC radio (station) there and they were playing an R.E.M. song. I like R.E.M. fine, but at the end of it, the DJ says, 'Ya that was R.E.M., the sound of the new South'. I looked at my roommate and we said, Gawd, if that's the sound of the new South, I preferred it when it was on the skids. That's how we got the name."

22 times - but I thought it was less so I clicked 'more than 10 times' and not 'more than 20 times'. I'm sure I forgot lots of things, and didn't mention all the awesome R.E.M. fans that I met. I know I posted more about it here at the time but I don't want to try and find the posts now.

My first R.E.M. show, and my then boyfriend (now husband) almost had to drag me there. The venue was great, right at the lake, but on our way there there were lots of traffic jams because of the large numbers of visitors. It was also incredibly crowded so we went from the middle of the crowd, where we were standing during the support acts playing, to the very end of the crowd. I can't say I saw very much apart from the colourful video screens that were showing artsy video stuff). I remember Man on the Moon being played. I later learnt that Mike was taken to hospital after the show.
9 July 1995 - Duren-Badesee, Cologne, Germany
support: Oasis, Belly, The Cranberries
set: What's The Frequency, Kenneth? / Crush With Eyeliner / Drive / Try Not To Breathe / Undertow / Strange Currencies / I Don't Sleep, I Dream / Revolution / Tongue / Man On The Moon / Country Feedback / Half A World Away / Losing My Religion / Departure / Pop Song 89 / Finest Worksong / Get Up / Star 69
encore: Let Me In / Everybody Hurts / Bang And Blame / It's The End Of The World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine)

We arrived the day before the show and had some vinyl autographed by the band and our pictures taken with them after they had finished their rehearsals. It was great. The Tivoli was very small and the show nice, despite the lack of a real light show. The intimacy definitely made up for it. I learned the lady who had been with Michael the night before was Linda Hopper from Magnapop. I was so happy that So Fast So Numb and Maps and Legends were played! My singing must have annoyed the people in front of me, too bad we weren't in front row.
21 June 2003 - The Tivoli, Utrecht, Holland
set: Begin The Begin / Animal / The Great Beyond / Drive / Welcome To The Occupation / Bad Day / Imitation Of Life / Daysleeper / All The Way To Reno (You're Gonna Be A Star) / So Fast So Numb / Maps And Legends / Losing My Religion / Electrolite / At My Most Beautiful / The One I Love / Life And How To Live It / She Just Wants To Be / Walk Unafraid / Man On The Moon
encore: Everybody Hurts / Favourite Writer (w/ Linda Hopper) / Little America / People Have The Power-It's The End Of The World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine)
notes: Favourite Writer is a Magnapop song. Animal makes its live debut. Assuming they didn't appear at shows where there are no setlists for, first appearance of Maps and Legends since 15 June 1989, Little America since 11 February 1989, Welcome To The Occupation since 19 November 1995 and Drive since 21 November 1995. Also the first time Drive has been performed in the same tempo as the album version (unlike the 'funk' version played on the 1995 tour)

I travelled all by myself and met two people I knew vaguely from the internet, and a far relative (sister's husband's niece) who turned out to like R.E.M. as well. It was a great show, as far as I remember (I sure must have posted about this here at the time).
5 July 2003 - Konigsplatz, Munich, Germany
support: Feeder
set: Begin The Begin / Get Up / Imitation Of Life / Drive / Animal / So. Central Rain / I've Been High / Fall On Me / Bad Day / The One I Love / Daysleeper / Feeling Gravitys Pull / Losing My Religion / At My Most Beautiful / Life And How To Live It / She Just Wants To Be / Walk Unafraid / Man On The Moon
encore: Everybody Hurts / These Days / Chorus And The Ring[snippet]-Country Feedback / People Have The Power [part] / Passenger / It's The End Of The World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine)

I was there with my best friend Kerstin, and we were in front row, thanks to the "soundboard passes". For me, it was my first time in front row, and the was even recorded for a DVD. Wow. We had the best of times. I also got a lyric sheet and was sooo happy. Met Tessa.
19 July 2003 - Bowling Green, Wiesbaden, Germany
support: The Bambi Molesters, Blumfeld
soundcheck: All The Way To Reno (You're Gonna Be A Star) / Maps And Legends / I've Been High (2x) / Begin The Begin / Walk Unafraid [part]
set: Begin The Begin / What's The Frequency, Kenneth? / Maps And Legends / Drive / Animal / Daysleeper / The Great Beyond / Bad Day / The One I Love / All The Way To Reno (You're Gonna Be A Star) / Orange Crush / Losing My Religion / At My Most Beautiful / Electrolite / She Just Wants To Be / Walk Unafraid / Man On The Moon
encore: Everybody Hurts / So Fast, So Numb / Chorus And The Ring[snippet]-Country Feedback / Permanent Vacation / Imitation Of Life / It's The End Of The World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine)
notes: This show was filmed for the DVD/video release 'Perfect Square'

We were not in the area where the fan club people were seated, because we had bought the tickets in the regular ticket sale for this show. We were then led to our seats by a scary domina-style attendant they had at this studio, and it was basically all horrible there, except for seeing Michael and R.E.M.. The latter made up for everything else.
23 October 2003 - TV Total, Brainpool/Viva TV Studios, Cologne, Germany
set: Interview / Bad Day

The show started at about midnight which made the atmosphere quite eery. It was recorded for the radio so Michael did his best not to move around too much but focused on his singing. Thanks so much to the fan club for providing us with the tickets! We also met a couple of great friends there.
23 October 2003 - Brainpool/Viva TV Studios, Cologne, Germany
audience: approx. 150
set: What's The Frequency, Kenneth? / Animal / Electrolite / Bad Day / Daysleeper / Losing My Religion / Orange Crush / She Just Wants To Be / Walk Unafraid / Man On The Moon
encore: Exhuming McCarthy / Nightswimming (False Start) / Nightswimming / Imitation Of Life / Permanent Vacation
notes: Performance later in the evening after the TV Total show. Recorded by Radio Köln

Thanks a lot to Alexandra (pinklotus) and Sabine (bluemoon), without them I wouldn't have been able to be there.
23 September 2004 - Top Of The Pops, Hürth, Cologne, Germany
set: Leaving New York / Aftermath / Wanderlust

My friend Kerstin was with me again, and Robert as well, who met Dunja there. :D It was a fantastic show once again. As the timeline info says, Peter played with the Thrills during the support act.
4 February 2005 - KöPi-Arena, Oberhausen, Germany
support: The Thrills
set: Finest Worksong / Departure / I Took Your Name / Animal / The Outsiders / Seven Chinese Brothers / High Speed Train / Everybody Hurts / Boy In The Well / Electrolite / Leaving New York / Orange Crush / I Wanted To Be Wrong / Final Straw / Imitation Of Life / The One I Love / Walk Unafraid / Losing My Religion
encore: What's The Frequency, Kenneth? / The Wake-Up Bomb / Aftermath / Find The River / The Great Beyond / I'm Gonna DJ / Man On The Moon
notes: First performance of 'I Took Your Name' since 19 November 1995. 'Find The River' was not on the setlist, it was added as a request. Peter played mandolin with The Thrills on 'Curse Of Comfort'

I went with Robert. Once again a great show. I remember the floor being icy cold (this was actually an ice hockey stadium).
5 February 2005 - Preussag Arena, Hannover, Germany
support: The Thrills
set: Finest Worksong / Departure / So Fast, So Numb / Animal / The Outsiders / Turn You Inside-Out / High Speed Train / Everybody Hurts / Aftermath / The Great Beyond / Boy In The Well / Orange Crush / I Wanted To Be Wrong / Final Straw / Imitation Of Life / The One I Love / Walk Unafraid / Losing My Religion
encore: What's The Frequency, Kenneth? / Exhuming McCarthy / Drive / Country Feedback / Leaving New York / I'm Gonna DJ / Man On The Moon

Another one that I saw with Robert. I Wanna Be Your Dog was definitely something special.
12 February 2005 - Schleyerhalle, Stuttgart, Germany
support: The Thrills
set: I Took Your Name / The Wake-Up Bomb / Animal / Drive / The Outsiders / So. Central Rain / Leaving New York / Everybody Hurts / Electron Blue / Electrolite / Sweetness Follows / Orange Crush / I Wanted To Be Wrong / Final Straw / Imitation Of Life / The One I Love / Walk Unafraid / Losing My Religion
encore: Begin The Begin / The Great Beyond / I've Been High / Star 69 / I'm Gonna DJ / Man On The Moon / I Wanna Be Your Dog
notes: The Band just finished Man On The Moon as the last song and Micheal stood up on his monitor-box and wanted to get rid of his in-ear-monitoring-cable to get his shirt off. The band kept on playing the last chord waiting for Micheal to stop the song. But the cable somehow got caught in his necklace and he couldn't untie the cable. The band was already joking about it and continued to play the last chord, a roadie came to help him, while Micheal started to sing "I wanna be your dog" by The Stooges. And the band had great fun to get into the song. After the first chorus Micheal was finally released and went on singing another verse and chorus with Peter and Scott joining in on the chorus!

This was fantastic, in a rather smallish open air venue. I had made sure I could leave work earlier (which was a great problem there but I didn't care) so that we would be in the queue early. Hubby was with me. Mike posed for my photos and he seemed to have lots and lots of fun. After the show my hubby didn't want to wait at the back entrance so we missed Mike giving autographs to the fans.
28 June 2005 - Museumsplatz, Bonn, Germany
support: Richard Hawley
soundcheck: Imitation Of Life [half] / Imitation Of Life / Everybody Hurts / Losing My Religion / Man On The Moon
set: Bad Day / What's The Frequency, Kenneth? / The One I Love / The Outsiders / Driver 8 / Wanderlust / So Fast, So Numb / Animal / High Speed Train / Disturbance At The Heron House / Leaving New York / Everybody Hurts / Electron Blue / Electrolite / Final Straw / Orange Crush / Walk Unafraid / Losing My Religion
encore: Imitation Of Life / The Great Beyond / Drive / I've Been High / I'm Gonna DJ / Man On The Moon

I also had tickets for the Hyde Park show that was supposed to take place the day after this one was cancelled because of the underground bombing. I arrived in London the day after the bombing and somehow got to Ipswich (thanks Robert for picking me up somewhere). The hotel was horrible. The show was great.
8 July 2005 - Portman Road, Ipswich, England
support: The Zutons, Idlewild
set: Everybody Hurts / Get Up / What's The Frequency, Kenneth? / Bad Day / The One I Love / The Outsiders / Drive / Wanderlust / Animal / So. Central Rain / Leaving New York / Electrolite / Electron Blue / These Days / Final Straw / Orange Crush / Walk Unafraid / Losing My Religion
encore: Imitation Of Life / The Great Beyond / (Don't Go Back To) Rockville / Nightswimming / I'm Gonna DJ / Man On The Moon
notes: Michael read a prepared statement before opening with Everybody Hurts: "We came here today from London. It's an understatement to say that this has been a difficult couple of days for everyone. Music is, at it's best, about catharsis, about epiphany, about feeling, about remembering, about community and about celebration - about celebrating life. The intention here tonight and with this gesture is to honour that; not to forget but to remember and to honour the sanctity of life. Together, tonight, let's raise our voices up in celebration and in rememberance."

I travelled from London to Cardiff with Susanne and Kati. At the hotel, I met my friend Jason from Cornwall but I had to leave for the venue fairly soon, it started very early with all the support bands. I did enjoy Idlewild a lot. Again, it was a great show. I was lucky to be in front row again, I have to say it was very crowded there.
10 July 2005 - Millennium Stadium, Cardiff, Wales
support: The Zutons, Idlewild, Jonathon Rice
set: Bad Day / What's The Frequency, Kenneth? / The One I Love / Drive / The Outsiders / Animal / Strange Currencies / Wanderlust / So Fast, So Numb / Leaving New York / Everybody Hurts / Electron Blue / Electrolite / These Days / Final Straw / Orange Crush / Walk Unafraid / Losing My Religion
encore: Imitation Of Life / The Great Beyond / Exhuming McCarthy / Nightswimming / I'm Gonna DJ / Man On The Moon
notes: Mike Mills sang and played piano with Idlewild on 'Sweet Home Alabama' during their set

My husband and I interrupted our Summer holidays and flew to Dublin to see this show. Luckily, we arrived in time despite the Ryan Air flight being a couple of hours late and the taxi driver taking a detour. Of course, the show in this fantastic venue was great! I was so happy to hear the new songs and West of the Fields.
5 July 2007 - Olympia Theatre, Dublin, Ireland
support: Mundy
set: Living Well Is The Best Revenge / Staring Down The Barrel Of The Middle Distance / Welcome To The Occupation / Mr Richards / Pretty Persuasion / Houston / Worst Joke Ever / Man-Sized Wreath / West Of The Fields / On The Fly / Romance / Supernatural Superserious / Cuyahoga / Accelerate / Horse To Water
encore: Second Guessing / Auctioneer (Another Engine) / Gardening At Night / Until The Day Is Done / I'm Gonna DJ
notes: First known performance of Romance since 17 July 1983

We were able to witness the soundcheck because we had booked a guided tour of the Royal Albert Hall for the afternoon, hoping that the soundcheck would be during the time when we would be there. Luckily, it was. We did enjoy this show despite the fact that it seemed short.
24 March 2008 - Royal Albert Hall, London, England
set: Living Well Is The Best Revenge / Accelerate / Drive / Man-Sized Wreath / Electrolite / Houston / Hollow Man / Supernatural Superserious / Final Straw / Losing My Religion / The Great Beyond / I'm Gonna DJ / Horse To Water
encore: Imitation Of Life / Until The Day Is Done / Man On The Moon

Thanks a lot to Radek for giving me his spare pass! I had flown back home after the RAH show and came back to London for this one. The band looked ill-tempered when they stormed the stage and started with Bad Day. It was a fantastic set.
26 March 2008 - Apple Store, Regent Street, London, England
set: Bad Day / Auctioneer (Another Engine) / Supernatural Superserious / Fall On Me / Man-Sized Wreath / Hollow Man / West Of The Fields / Houston / Living Well Is The Best Revenge / Man On The Moon / I'm Gonna DJ / Walk Unafraid / Horse To Water
notes: The setlist listed 'Losing My Religion or Man on The Moon', and the fans present got to vote for which one to be played (the loudest cheer would win)

I was with my Dutch internet friend Ann, and her husband. We also went to the 'Hello' book signing in Amsterdam. It was a great show!
2 July 2008 - Westerpark, Amsterdam, Netherlands
support: Modern Skirts
set: Living Well Is the Best Revenge / What's The Frequency, Kenneth? / Bad Day / Drive / Man-Sized Wreath / Ignoreland / Accelerate / Walk Unafraid / Hollow Man / Seven Chinese Brothers / Driver 8 / Houston / (Don't Go Back To) Rockville / The Great Beyond / The One I Love / Until The Day Is Done / Let Me In / These Days / Horse To Water / Orange Crush / I'm Gonna DJ
encore: Supernatural Superserious / Losing My Religion / Electrolite / Pretty Persuasion / Man On The Moon

When we heard about this show, we decided to spend our Summer holidays in Nice. The Théâtre de Verdure is a small open air venue. I have never seen the band happier than at this show.
9 July 2008 - Theatre De Verdure, Nice, France
support: Ludeal
set: Begin The Begin / Living Well Is the Best Revenge / Harborcoat / What's The Frequency, Kenneth? / Seven Chinese Brothers / Man-Sized Wreath / Ignoreland / Walk Unafraid / Disturbance At The Heron House / Drive / Hollow Man / The Great Beyond / Houston / Electrolite / The One I Love / Imitation Of Life / Nightswimming / Let Me In / Pretty Persuasion / Bad Day / Horse To Water / I'm Gonna DJ
encore: Supernatural Superserious / Losing My Religion / Fall On Me / Man On The Moon

Petra and I walked around Dresden. We went with Karin (and Heike, I think?). The setting at the river Elbe was beautiful, and the show was really great. After the show, we went for a drink together.
15 July 2008 - Elbufer, Dresden, Germany
support: Editors
set: These Days / Horse To Water / Second Guessing / What's The Frequency, Kenneth? / Disturbance At The Heron House / Man-Sized Wreath / Ignoreland / Seven Chinese Brothers / The Great Beyond / Accelerate / Walk Unafraid / Houston / Electrolite / Imitation Of Life / Little America / The One I Love / I've Been High / Let Me In / Living Well Is the Best Revenge / Bad Day / I'm Gonna DJ / Orange Crush
encore: Supernatural Superserious / Losing My Religion / Hollow Man / Country Feedback / Man On The Moon

I remember the weather being horrible, it rained all the time when we were waiting outside the venue. When R.E.M. started playing, it stopped raining! During the show, it seemed to me that Michael didn't recognize Airliner when it was played. :D After the show, we had to leave immediately to get the last train to the place where Karin lives. We had a great time there as well, with Inka, Heike and Ulrike. :)
16 July 2008 - Waldbuhne, Berlin, Germany
support: Editors
set: Living Well Is The Best Revenge / West Of The Fields / What's The Frequency, Kenneth? / Star 69 / Man-Sized Wreath / Ignoreland / Begin The Begin / Hollow Man / Airliner / Imitation Of Life / Houston / Electrolite / So. Central Rain / Auctioneer (Another Engine) / The Great Beyond / The One I Love / Pretty Persuasion / Fall On Me / Let Me In / Horse To Water / Bad Day / I'm Gonna DJ / Orange Crush
encore: Supernatural Superserious / Losing My Religion / Driver 8 / (Don't Go Back To) Rockville / Man On The Moon
notes: The band played Airliner while Michael was changing his shoes and socks on stage

This was a family outing with me, as my husband, my two sisters and teenage niece went with me. We had great seats. Not so great were the people behind us who complained about fanclub people standing because their view was blocked. Michael's voice was a bit damaged because of a cold he had caught in a cold hotel room somewhere in the Baltic states. I had a great time, of course, and my niece loved it as well.
17 September 2008 - Konig-Pilsener Arena, Oberhausen, Germany
support: We Are Scientists
set: Living Well Is the Best Revenge / What's the Frequency, Kenneth? / I Took Your Name / Second Guessing / Drive / Walk Unafraid / Man-Sized Wreath / Ignoreland / The Great Beyond / Hollow Man / Circus Envy / Just A Touch / Electrolite / The One I Love / (Don't Go Back To) Rockville / I've Been High / Let Me In / Bad Day / Horse To Water / Orange Crush / It's The End Of The World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine)
encore: Supernatural Superserious / Imitation Of Life / Sing For The Submarine / Losing My Religion / Man On The Moon
notes: First performance of Just A Touch since 14 March 1989. Debut performance of Sing For The Submarine

I went by car with Kati, and if anyone had told me it would be the last R.E.M. performance that I saw I wouldn't have believed it. The venue was quite small and it meant great fun for everybody. I was standing next to Patrick (remfan72) - whatever happened to him? During the show, Michael asked how many young people were in the crowd, and in fact, there were very few.
