Fate Of R.E.M.'s Plastic Dinosaurs?

Well, someone has to worry about these icons... :)

I wonder what will become of the plastic (rubber?) dinosaurs which R.E.M. always displayed on top of their amplifiers at every concert.  I don't know when these dinosaurs first appeared, but I believe they made their initial appearance sometime in the 1980's.  No R.E.M. show was complete without these plastic or rubber dinosaurs.

I hope a good home is found for them.  Perhaps they'll be autographed and sold at auction with the proceeds going to charity?  Who knows...  :confused:

Peter Buck is collecting those. It's not a R.E.M. prop, that has no value now they don't tour, it's simply private stuff.

Maybe the ones that were originally used to mark the left and right speakers could be donated to the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame. That is, if they still exist.

I'm pretty sure they turn alive during the night and keep on re-enacting scenes from Adventures in Dinosaur City.
In 1984 Orwell writes of a nation that constantly under attack with a undescribed enemy, as such causing permanent anxiousness in the population a constance of fear of the outside and a justification for both the suppression of people and increased governmetal control and military spending. The genius of the unidentified enemy is the need for this never to end.

Only the T-Rexes, naturally. The Diplodocuses can't move as gracefully.

Clearly not private if he feels the need to display them to 10000 people at a show.

They aren't full sized, you know. I doubt anyone can see them during a show, unless the camera focuses on them from real close. It's just something that the fans know is there.

the dinos are gifts from fans.  we gave peter a couple in 2005, and he asked us to write our names on them.  we used to play 'spot our dinos' from the front row ... alas, no more.  i'd hate to think of them all ending up in a skip somewhere.

It was a joke that needed to be made, obvious though it was. :)

A couple years back I sculpted a little pterodactyl for him, that was fun!  He must have collected a lot from fans over the years.

i saw them in a pic from the studio from around colapse into now, so i guess they still have them. i think ethan posted that pic
