I am looking forward to the release and yes, I will buy it.
That's me in the spotlight, losing my religion!

Throughout the day I was fearing the breakup of R.E.M. would kick start my midlife crisis. I'm ripe for it anyway. :D

Buying this compilation however, I suspect, will be a cathartic experience. For many people. I look forward to reading the liner notes, always a treat. In fact, the first REM cd I ever bought in January 1990 was (little did I know) Dead Letter Office. That's how I got to know Peter Buck's witty, selfassured, but ultmately honest and almost humble words. One of the reasons why I fell in love with this fabulous band.

Ordered the reissue of LRP (one of my early favorites) on friday and I'm expecting a reissue of Document next year (face it: why wouldn't they). It wil be different, losing the prospect of an entirely new release, but boy, I will enjoy everything I have and whatever 'old' material that is still to come.

You're right! A re issue of Document ... Some live DVD in 2014. B-Sides of the Warner era.
I'll take whatever they decide to give us!

there's another CiN outtake called "Badass".

Oh! What's your source, if you don't mind my asking ??

It's the poison that it measures
Brings illuminating vision
It's the knowing with a wink
That we expect in Southern women
It's the wolf that knows which root to dig to save itself
It's the octopus that crawled back to the sea.

I hear Michael saying that about "Badass" on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon in March
"Halfway from coal, halfway to diamond"

Potential album cover at Pitchfork?

http://pitchfork.com...est-hits-album/

I've seen it posted several places online today so I believe it's the actual album cover.

awwww I'm sad that it's only 3 new songs instead of 4.  I do think they should've put Drive on there, but it's not like I don't have Automatic to go listen to Drive whenever I want :)  Drive was the 4th R.E.M. song I ever heard.  I knew Stand, Losing My Religion, and Shiny Happy People before it, that was it.  I remember them saying on MTV "the new REM video will premiere this week" and watching it the day it premiered.  It's an important song of theirs IMO and I like it better than Sidewinder.  Also, how many casual fans are going to buy a 2 disc?  I thought about a couple of 17-18 song lists, with room for one extra song, that would make a good one disc version.  I think they could've done both a one disc and a two disc version, the latter being for all of the big fans.  I think they are missing a big opportunity with that.  And even on the one disc, I would've included Drive.  Oh well, we will take what we can get :)  I am glad with three new songs, it's just when you think you are getting four, it's a bit of a letdown.

The person here that originally mentioned there would be four songs never cited a source for that information so, until I read it from a reliable source, I didn't take it for gospel anyway.
"We were listening to the UNC radio (station) there and they were playing an R.E.M. song. I like R.E.M. fine, but at the end of it, the DJ says, 'Ya that was R.E.M., the sound of the new South'. I looked at my roommate and we said, Gawd, if that's the sound of the new South, I preferred it when it was on the skids. That's how we got the name."

I'd quite like the insiders to fuck off.  The "I've heard it already" crap has been part of the problem with this band for the last 5 years, quit trying to insert yourself into their story, quit trying to be gatekeepers to information.  If you're really fans, for once can you just have the decency and humility to let the music speak for itself.  It's not about you, or your privileged position.
