The band will cap its 31-year recording career with its first-ever definitive greatest hits album, due out from Warner Bros. Records on November 15th. The 40-song retrospective-- R.E.M., PART LIES, PART HEART, PART TRUTH, PART GARBAGE, 1982 - 2011--includes tracks from both the IRS and Warner years plus three brand-new songs.

Jacknife is at the helm again, good producer, but I was hoping for a change of sound on these last 3 songs.

Going by the description of rolling stone, we'll have a change of sound, at least for the new single

I wonder if that photo will be on the album cover. It clearly is an Abbey Road reference, complete with an empty space for Bill the fourth member. That's appropriate, this being the end, an homage to the great band before them which was always in their sights. Resonates well with the title of their new single - "We All Go Back to Where We Belong," as they are walking in the direction opposite that of the Beatles. Also, Michael, in the lead, is the one looking askance, not straight ahead, contra George, in the rear, doing same in AR. Doubtless intended.

Is that the 40 Watt?

I looked for it,
And I found it,
Miles Standish proud,
Congratulate me. ...

Answer me a question,
I can't itemize, I can't think clearly,
To me for reason it's not there,
I can't even rhyme ...

I see the list, and think ...
Can't get there from here, not there?
I believe, not there?
World leader pretend, not there?
Exhuming Mc Carthy, not there?
You are the everything, not there?
Belong, not there?
Half a world away, not there?
Drive, not there?
What happened with Monster? Only What's the freq Kenneth?
EBow the letter, not there?
Sad professor, not there?
And Beat a drum?
Etc etc etc etc

But of course ... how could you put 31 years, and 15 records, in just 37 songs? FU$%$& impossible!

Have to agree!
Even Everyday is yours to win or Walk it back, my favorites (with ÜBerlin and It happened today).

Totally! I mean, it's inevitable that people will be disappointed with the list, but I think there are some serious missteps here. I know Country Feedback is a big fan favorite, but over E-Bow, Daysleeper, or Strange Currencies?? Hell no. But I think Drive is probably the biggest surprise. I would have thought that would be a no brainer - especially considering they included Sidewinder (really?).

Sidewinder's awesome - I like it better than Drive. So there! :P

Particularly surprising given that Drive was only bumped from In TIme due to WB's "insistence" that Sidewinder be included!

Hallelujah? Seriously?  I hope that isn't a cover of the popular one called that.

Now it's only 3 songs.   I guess the 4 songs was a mistake.
MS to Me: Where else could antelopes jump off tall buildings and submarines be fueled by melody?
