The first time I heard "Half a World Away" I thought I felt JUST like that song. I still relate to it a lot. I didn't make it go look like I had a strange connection with someone I never met. Good art is something that a lot of different people can relate to and connect with, even so strongly to say "Yeah, I've been there." It's the power of music and art that is mind blowing, not you, or even Michael actually, thorn plucker, just the awesome power of music.

and I am glad they are leaving on a high note, I liked Collapse into Now. After hearing such a strong album I thought they had one last album in them, and I thought they would do one last tour. But I realize that's a 2 year commitment at least, and the pain of figuring out how to release it, new contracts or whatever, and if they just didn't want to go through that, 2 years is a long time. Who would want an album or tour if they had to fake their enthusiasm? They've all ready given 31 years to this, that's a lot. And I am actually excited about the Greatest Hits. I remember when the one came out in 2003, casual fans were like "Where's "it's the end of the world as we know it" and "the one I love" and their eyes glazed over when I tried to explain they used to be on a different record label. The fact that they were together for so long is so fascinating to me, but most people don't care about the history, especially before they're a huge fan - it's the music that will draw people in. If there was a greatest hits that had all the hits the casual fans want, I think a lot of people will be interested in that, and maybe convince some of them to want to hear more. I think there will be a lot of people talking about them in the near future, and I think it's exciting that more people will still continue to discover their music. I am not surprised old Murmurs members are coming back to reminisce and new fans hearing R.E.M. in the news are remembering "hey I like this band, I never even realized how many of their songs I like" and looking up R.E.M. sites and finding Murmurs, and coming here. I see Murmurs is closing in December, and that's cool, but for now, it's a cool that people have a place to go. All is as it's should be, in my opinion.

Thanks for saying those kind things, TP, but you didn't answer my question. Let's assume for the moment everything you say about LNY, etc., is true. What do you want from us here? How does the world change for the better if everybody believes you? What can we do for you, or give you, that you don't already have?
I looked for it,
And I found it,
Miles Standish proud,
Congratulate me. ...
Answer me a question,
I can't itemize, I can't think clearly,
To me for reason it's not there,
I can't even rhyme ...

Well fuck up already then!
By the way, I highly doubt that your letter/s to Michael got past the crazy pile, aka trash bin. Just because you were happy to waste you money having it signed delivery and you have an electronic record that it was signed for by David Bell means jack shit.

Well ... I explained the reason that I shared the story, I mentioned the fact that I don't care whether people believe it or not (so as far as world change goes ... it's really not my concern), and as far as my needs go, I'm pretty self-satisfied so I can't really think of anything that you (collectively) can do for me. but thank you for asking.
Maybe writing it down on a piece of paper, folding it up tight and putting it somewhere private and special would have been more appropriate then?

You say you don't care, that it means nothing to you. That clearly is false, otherwise you wouldn't argue and fight about it so doggedly. Starved for attention, even if very negative, it would seem. Well, if you dig that, and if some folks here are into administering lashings to you, I leave it to y'all to enjoy your kinky games.
To a relatively objective view from outside, mine that is, it's not doing you a lick of good, not, as it were, getting you any closer to the chocolate at the center of the tootsie pop. But if it blows your skirt up, Marilyn, dearheart, who am I do deny your fun? You are having fun, right?

I hear that Michael and one of his favorite hoochie coochie designers, Gucci or Armani or someone have just launched a new fragrance together. It's called Eau De Nial. I think it comes with deodorant and shaving gel too.

So I guess we're not that thick, we pretty much guessed they were bullshit stories from the get go. Jodi is one confused pigeon.

Yeah - it seems like my degrees were a waste of time. Apparently sitting at home, making up stories, taking pictures of ugly necklaces and trying to find hidden messages in songs is how you expand your mind. Or drive Athens to wander around like aimlessly because of gnarly 'feelings' that it is a good idea - and see messages in everyday things? Apparently the latter is no longer a well recognised symptom of special sort of 'unwell'. Neither is having a conspiracy theory about people knowing what you are going to post on message boards before you hit submit. Absolutely not! Neither is imagining that the only reason why people 'don't get it' is because they aren't as highly evolved as you. Some people call that delusions of grandeur. Or accusing people of searching for naked pictures of yourself after you had posted the links that lead to them? Because everyone really wants to see *that*. Um NOT.
My education has been wasted. Who needs letters after their name?!?

Shit, maybe I'm a made up character who lives in cyber-space, and my in-built spell check is failing, hang on, I might be Stipe as his grammar check has certainly failed, OMG, my brain is melting with the possibilities.

Thorn do us a favor please stop all of this nonsense. You have been going on for a month now or longer like this. Can't you talk about the band and Michael without constantly bringing up this story. I'm sick of hearing about it to tell you the truth. A few on here used to think I was this crazy obsessed Stipe fan. As it turns out not so much. There is a point when you have to grab a hold of yourself. When I think of the few scary fans I came across I sure hope they didn't show this craziness to the band when they met them because no wonder they decided to disband.

You know, I read plucker's story and I realized that it rings a bell. I can tell you about a very similar experience I had, that was somewhere around 1980.
I was walking down the street and I saw an ad of the local museum, it said that there was a neo-classical exhibition, and being the art lover that I am, I knew I had to check it out, even though the museum was really far from where I was. It was also really hot and I had no water, I swear I must have had an hallucination of an oasis more than once. Anyway, when I finally got to the museum I was horrified to see that the exhibition was in the 9th floor and the elevator was off... so I had to climb all those stairs to get there, but let me tell you, when I got into the hall and saw Jacques-Louis David's famous painting, "La Mort de Marat", man, it was totally worth it.

In 1984 Orwell writes of a nation that constantly under attack with a undescribed enemy, as such causing permanent anxiousness in the population a constance of fear of the outside and a justification for both the suppression of people and increased governmetal control and military spending. The genius of the unidentified enemy is the need for this never to end.
