I recevied the email for the renewal....

I deleted my cookies but nothing changes...
am I having this problem because of the thing they wrote about the 21st september?
but I got the email before the 21st..... !!!!!!
Did some of you renewel it after the 21st?

I just renewed mine a few days before the "BIG" announcement. I just assumed that due to bad timing I would be out my $10. I should have known that these guys would be "Stand Up" as usual. I'm happy to learn that I will still receive my Holiday package.

Still have (or had) a few months to run on mine, so glad I will receive the last ever christmas single (It seems so strange saying that....the last ever).
Wonder just what it will be, something a little extra special I hope...
maybe including a special ticket to a special private goodbye performace just for the fanclubbers...we can but dream!!

Mmmm, good there will be one more, BUT - disappointing they've decided to stop the fanclub. Why can you not have a fanclub for REM even if the band is no longer together? I'm sure the guys will remain individually active and surely there would and should be a place for a fanclub going forward.....

Where did you see this? Did they email this to everyone? Mine also expired on the 20th and I tried to renew a few days before. Hope I do get the xmas single. I would hate to have to buy it on ebay.

I really don't see the need to keep the fan club active though I hope REMHQ won't go away so we can be informed of individual projects, archival releases, etc. there. Since the advent of the internet the fan club newsletters have usually been full of information we'd all seen elsewhere first anyway, the main reason for staying a member was because of the annual holiday package.
"We were listening to the UNC radio (station) there and they were playing an R.E.M. song. I like R.E.M. fine, but at the end of it, the DJ says, 'Ya that was R.E.M., the sound of the new South'. I looked at my roommate and we said, Gawd, if that's the sound of the new South, I preferred it when it was on the skids. That's how we got the name."

just a general announcement on the website? it would have been nice, as a fanclub member, to get something like, "dear fanclub member, as you read this, a message is being posted on our website announcing...."

Actually, I wasn't surprised at all. No matter how they handled it there's always going to be someone out that finds fault. I found out the news here first then visited HQ. I would imagine the last newsletter will include the exact statement that appears on HQ in regards to R.E.M. disbanding.

Well I updated my fanclub membership[ for my me and my sister on the day of the announcement....
and our memberships now expire................ December 2012!!!!!!!!!!!
. I was already ok for the christmas package this yyear but now expect REM to reconside their decision and carry on for at least another 15 months......time for an album and world tour :-) probably lost my money but I guess we can say that we were the last enrolled!!!..........or can anyone do better!!
As far as the decision to call it a day goes....as long as everyone is happy and healthy.....good luck to them.... I personally have has 31 years of pleasure listening and following the band...even had a long drinking session with them after the Bingo Hand Job show amongst many of the gigs I have attended.....and I look forward to seeing them at gigs, and following their interests in the future!!!.....
