In this country I live is not so common to find another R.E.M. fan, but I would like to feel this with someone else that understands ... so sad
Why is it that I'm crying

We do understand. Don't cry. The band would want you to be happy for them. Just look at it as though they are retiring from their job. They have worked hard and their retirement is well-desreved.

I have been sad today as well and just about kept going. Too old to tour is right. I am of a similar age to the band and I love my job but I would also like to finish now and do the things I haven't had time for because of my job.

I cried last night too. You're not alone.
Give me a minute and I'll tell you the setup for the worst joke ever

I came over to commisserate, been in a seminar all morning. I listened to Automatic on my commute this morning. I still feel like a family member has died. I think we all new that it would end someday, but not today. I was still looking forward to a few more albums, another tour.
If you look at it as a retirement, then I would say congratulations to the band. And good luck. Whenever I felt depressed, or going through something stressful, I always put on REM. The music gave me hope. My theme for the past month was to win every day. Whenever I feel like I am underachieving, not doing enough, I try to think of that. Thank you REM.

Every day is new again
Every day is yours to win
And that's how heroes are made

Well yeah, every day is new again, every day is yours to win!
This sadness will end soon and we'll still have all the awesome records and the DVDs.
If I find some free time tonight I'll watch "Perfect Square"!

I feel like crying as well... The news took me by surprise and turned into shock that affected my whole day. I guess for some of us it truly is a little like It's the End of the World as we know it... And I don't really feel fine about that even though I respect their decision. I saw them live once; I wish I would have gotten more chances... collapse into Now seems more and more lika a final goodbye present from REM to us fans.
live in Zürich on the 23rd of September, 2008
I own all albums

You're not alone. Others of us feel the same.
Don't listen to the people who tell you you "shouldn't" feel bad about this.
Don't listen to the people who tell you that you "shouldn't" cry.
Cry for as long as it feels right.
You won't be alone.

"I wound up figuring out something that I had never been able to figure out before, which was: who am I after R.E.M.? I now know, and I’m OK with it. I’m just not a whole lot without them. I’ve got a nice voice and good cheekbones, but without those guys writing songs with me, I don’t know that anyone would ever hear what I have to say.” . . ---Michael Stipe

two days of sadness and crying for me

I hear you all.
Tears sprung to my eyes too when I heard the news. Natural reaction when something you love is gone. Gone (static) but never ever forgotten.

I just wish I could have known 2008 was their last tour. I've been hoping to see them live for the last 3 years and now I never will
It's all here where I keep it, it's all in the yellow submarine, yellow submarine, yellow submarine...
