First thing is that I want to apologise for my english. I'm a spanish speaker, located in South America, Uruguay. My english is, just good enough, hopefuly.

I was not expecting this, honestly. 31 years, 5 months, 16 days ... just half of what I was expecting.

Some days ago I was driving my car, listening CIN, singing "Überlin", and thinking ... oh man, this song played live might be awesome. I still believe a live version of Überlin would be awesome, but I will never listen to it. And I will never see R.E.M. playing live again, as I did in Buenos Aires, twice.

I will miss the wait for a new record, the excitement I felt every time I was about to listen a new R.E.M. song. I will miss the shows, the frequent news in REMHQ ... it feels like if I broke up with a 30 years girlfriend.

But of course, I have to say that I'm thankful.
For the music, the shows. For all the great moments. When I was 15, now that I'm 33 ... R.E.M. was always a huge part of my life. It was not just music, it was more. Much more.

From Radio Free Europe until Blue ... you grew with me, or better, I grew with you guys. And ironically, I feel Blue today, and I'm sure it will be the same for some more days, weeks ... but your music is still there. Will always be there!

Even crying, I say thanks! Farewell Michael, Mike, Peter and Bill!

No need to be sad.  Life takes everyone in a new direction.  Sometimes, when you least expect it.

It's perfectly ok to be sad about this.

We all loved R.E.M. a lot, and a lot of us are still trying to figure out how to deal with their sudden absence.  Some of us are crying, some of us are probably still in denial, some of us are numb, some of us might not even understand the importance of grieving for this.

Even though we'll always have their music, and will always have the videos and the memories, that doesn't change the sense of grief and loss.

It's ok to be sad.  We lost something that was very important to us.

Do whatever you need to do.
We all grieve in different ways.

Some resilient people can feel better in just a few days, others take a lot longer.
Never let anyone tell you how to feel.
Don't let anyone rush you.
Just go ahead and take it at whatever pace is right for you.
"I wound up figuring out something that I had never been able to figure out before, which was: who am I after R.E.M.? I now know, and I’m OK with it. I’m just not a whole lot without them. I’ve got a nice voice and good cheekbones, but without those guys writing songs with me, I don’t know that anyone would ever hear what I have to say.”   .   .   ---Michael Stipe

dariohead I feel the same way.  My best friend and I were talking last night and we both agreed this feels like when a friend moves very far away.  Or yes a relationship you had for a long time that ends even if that sounds weird.
I had trouble sleeping the last two nights.  I agree like many friends/fan said we don't realize how much we take for Granted.

I know some of my posts showed anger towards the guys for breaking up.  This popped up so suddenly.  It does make me angry but it makes me more sad than anything.  I knew that when the time came it would feel this bad.  I'm still confused as to why they chose to do this especially when Michael was talking just a few years back about the band possibly going on until they reached their 60's. I wish he never said that.  I would not have got my hopes up.

In my heart you guys will always be a band whether you like it or not.  You're music will still continue to fill my heart with happiness and inspiration until my dying day.  I will go see other bands and artists next year as its a big tour season but there IS NOTHING like an R.E.M. show.

I feel so terribly sad about this news REM have been my favourite band for over 20 years, I have seen them many times and the thought of never feeling the elctricity they presnt in their live performances again, is really unexplainable, was wondering if any fans from Uk were planning any kind of farewell gathering coz i cant seem to let this go, like some of you have..
