It's not a funeral but I sure wish we could have a celebration of REM.  It would be great to be able to gather together with a bunch of REM fans/friends somewhere, blast REM music all night and raise a glass or twelve.

Who wants to join me?

Totally up for this. :)
Judge not lest ye be judged, what a beautiful refrain.

I'm fine! Lots and lots of work though, but I can happily say that I've been doing what I dreamed of doing last time I was here, so that is good.

And yeah, that's quite a blast from the past. I feel like this is our very own version of the Homicide Life on the Street movie. I just feel I need to be here for the final hurrah, you know?

Joni!  It's been a long time.  Glad to hear you're doing well.

Kelly! How have you been?, Please tell me you're just as cool as you were back in the days. I still want to be like you when I grow up (more).
In 1984 Orwell writes of a nation that constantly under attack with a undescribed enemy, as such causing permanent anxiousness in the population a constance of fear of the outside and a justification for both the suppression of people and increased governmetal control and military spending. The genius of the unidentified enemy is the need for this never to end.

That is good to hear, Joni. I think we were all happy for you when you got out of the military and your real life could start!

If there is going to be a pilgrimage and a gathering of murmursians, I would totally be up for it, seems like Athens would be an ideal place. I've never gotten to meet any of you!!

I am still running and, in fact, my running life is one reason why my priorities shifted.  I completed my first marathon in March of 2009 (and posted about it somewhere here, I believe).  Since then, I've finished 25 other races of marathon or ultramarathon (longer than 26.2 miles) distances.  I became a group leader of a local marathon training program in late 2009 and I'm very active with the local running community.
(I'm a slow runner.  I usually finish road marathons close to the middle of the pack, but I'm always one of the final finishers for trail ultramarathons.  I love the races, though, and it's fun to tweak my training in hopes of making improvements.)

Claire!, thanks a lot! It's funny cause in a way my real life started using much knowledge and experience I took from my previous one. It's nice to see that eventually it all mixes together...

And yes, we all probably had this plan back in the day to do this crazy road trip to athens... When we were young. Who knows, might do it some day.

Doing pretty well.  Donna's doing well, and both kids are in college now.  It's hard to believe.  I just quit my job on Friday to help create a high-tech company in California.  Kinda nervous, but also excited.  Should be an interesting couple of years.

As far as cool is concerned, that's not defined my me.. :)

Where is the daughter going to school?  are you and Donna relocating to CA, or more commuting?

Our eldest daughter is going to Michigan State, and our youngest daughter is staying here at the University of New Mexico.  We're going to stay here at least for the next year or two.  I'll be doing most of my work at home, then flying out there occasionally for testing and stuff.

D'oh, I meant to write younger daughter.  I remember the thread about the college search process for the older one, and that she ended up in my hometown.  How did summer in Japan go for her?

Nice!  I wish you the best of luck with your new company.  That's a big step, but an exciting one, I'm sure.

It was a great experience for her.  She qualified for the most advanced literature classes, but also got to experience the culture of Hokkaido on a very immersed level by living with a family.  Something she'll never forget.

Thanks.  Hopefully I'll do ok.

It's good to hear you're keeping up with the running.  I'm terribly out of shape right now, and have gained weight after quitting smoking about 5 years ago.  It's time for me to do something about it.

Good luck!, I started working independently 2 years ago, and while I was happy with my job I had prior to that, I'm way happier now. I remember seeing a video you posted, I think it had something to do with a stabilizing mechanism rigged to a camera that allowed it to be put on a helicopter and record a pretty stable video. I remembered that a couple of months ago when I had to stabilize footage recorded from a helicopter in a TV program about the Mayan 2012 prophecies.

I remember you Moni!  once host Mike Mills forum!  I remember inspectorjason in the  movie and music forum, there was a great love for The Cure.  I remember Joni having spars with Eric Z who must have changed his user name 5 times on here and Joni telling him he sounded like a broken record.  And there was the Church of Holy St. Peter, (Buck) I think was run by Tessa.
