I seriously doubt there will be a deluxe edition for this collection. The fact that there wasn't a deluxe edition of Collapse Into Now also doesn't bode well for something like that either.

"We were listening to the UNC radio (station) there and they were playing an R.E.M. song. I like R.E.M. fine, but at the end of it, the DJ says, 'Ya that was R.E.M., the sound of the new South'. I looked at my roommate and we said, Gawd, if that's the sound of the new South, I preferred it when it was on the skids. That's how we got the name."

Collapse Into Now did have a sort of special edition in HMV in the UK...it solely consisted of an outer slipcase for the digipak. Not much but it was an alternative to the Jewel Case edition.
If they aren't going to remaster Dead Letter Office as is I hope that some of its tracks feature on the box set. Burning Down, Ages Of You and Windout in particular as I think they rank with the finest early R.E.M. tracks. Given that they chose not to include any non album tracks (except demos that weren't rerecorded) on the Deluxe Editions (not even Chronic Town), it would indicate they were saving them for later.
My guess is that they might do a version of Part Truth with bonus DVD containing the videos and iTunes might have some album tracks as bonuses. A disappointing sendoff really, but it's better than nothing.

I guess the hopes for Bill appearing will rise from this quote "R.E.M. actually made their decision a few months ago, before they met in Athens, Georgia, this summer to record three new songs for a two-CD greatest-hits package,"
That would be awesome, but he's not on the new stuff.

I suspected as much, unfortunately... Thanks for the confirmation though.
