Well, is there any chance for a R.E.M. Tour in 2012? can we expect an announcement in the next few months?

maybe not a massive tour as the last one or the Around the Sun Tour, maybe something smaller like the Up Tour in 1999....

what do you think?

i think the ball on that one is in michaels camp, as he seemed to be the one not willing to go on the road this time.
would love to see them on the live again, even if it would be a small promo tour or so they would do.
i think no one knows at this point, but we can only hope

though, my gosh, so many people here sound so disgusted with michael (his elitist behavior and all), i doubt that many people would be interested in seeing a live show.

I for one don't give a damn about that. I just want to see my favorite band play live

Michael on stage and off stage are two completely different people. I have next to no interest in his private life (or which celebrities he hangs with, his love of Beyonce etc) but on stage he is always fascinating and is as good performer as ever, so I'd like to see a tour. That said, I can only see a mini tour previewing (hopefully) new songs, as it would go against their ethos to just play a greatest hits set & I think the promotion for Collapse Into Now is well and truly over.

I certainly hope they tour again soon. 2008 feels like an eternity ago. Perhaps the fact that they were recording in Athens so soon after Collapse augurs that they'll be road testing some material in the near future.

they pretty much did that in 2003, though it was their idea of a greatest hits of course.

Yeah, but that was to promote In Time, surely? I meant, unless there was the horrible prospect of another greatest hits, I can't see them going on the road without a real purpose.

It still hasn't been confirmed by anyone (at least to my knowledge) that Stipe was working on new R.E.M. material.
"We were listening to the UNC radio (station) there and they were playing an R.E.M. song. I like R.E.M. fine, but at the end of it, the DJ says, 'Ya that was R.E.M., the sound of the new South'. I looked at my roommate and we said, Gawd, if that's the sound of the new South, I preferred it when it was on the skids. That's how we got the name."

I hope they tour in the near future.    I realize how far away it is and it's a long shot having an expectation that they'll come to Australia and the southern hemisphere, but I really hope they do. That would be awesome.

Hey man, how you doing? (spoke to you around CIN time over on the atease forums) :)

Did your friend give any more info? I guess it's pretty hush hush right?

Mike said just after Collapse came out that they do not tour to promote albums.  So why not tour next year since there will not be anything to promote.  It's also election year so its a good year to tour.   I really do hope they do some shows.

He was back on stage in Portland with the Decemberists a few weeks ago, so it would seem it's better.

Apparently some fans at the Coachella site are pushing for R.E.M. to be headliners in 2012.
