Not sure if this has been brought up before, and correct me if I'm wrong, but something occurred to me this afternoon when I was listening to the Dublin live album.
Just before 1,ooo,ooo starts, Michael introduces "another song from Chronic Town" or words to that effect. However, that song is the first to feature from the EP. Carnival of Sorts, Wolves, Lower and and Gardening At Night follow afterwards. Stumble, unfortunately, does not make an appearance. I know it's an amalgamation of the five shows, but it just jumped out at me.
Not really sure what the point of this post is, to be honest. It just made me smile. And the man opposite me on the train look uncomfortable at the weirdo chuckling to himself.

I never noticed that! However I did notice that Stipe says at the end of West of the Fields "and with that we move on to a new song", then they launch into Pretty Persuasion!
It's all here where I keep it, it's all in the yellow submarine, yellow submarine, yellow submarine...

I think the strength of the Olympia is precisely its informality, R.E.M. reduced to their most essential and having fun, not everything being calculated. What might have been considered a goof in a calculated performance, here in Dublin adds to the casual atmosphere of the night.
Your post actually comes at a time when I was doing some thinking about the "This is not a show" motto. Didn't this prefigure the current reluctancy to perform live? I know there have been touring droughts in the past, but if you take those words out of context, use them today, they were prophetic. At some point during the rehearsal, Stipe confesses that he's feeling the touring adrenaline he was trying to avoid. We are hoping he feels that adrenaline anew, go out with the band and tour this time with the motto this is a show.

According to the timeline, "1,000,000" was played three of the nights, but only on July 4th did it follow another Chronic Town cut ("Wolves, Lower"). "West of the Fields" was played twice, both times followed by "On the Fly." It's interesting that in making the live album they didn't fit the banter to the songs.

Whenever I listen to night #4, I must smile several times.
I think this night might have been the best one!
The audience, the laughs and what makes me laugh especially: Michael's Harborcoat-story
! Especially the part when he notices who was listening and his trials to save his hide
And well: Harborcoat of course!

I know what yiu mean
And I also add this as a night #4 highlight:
I'm surprised that Vincent Moon didn't notice how just these 2 episodes were so symbolic for the meaning of "Rehearsals". And he completely ignored Disguised
P.S. I'll kiss Peter's ass forever for just putting 3 Chronic Town tunes in a single setlist
