Anyone know what this is? Is it an official release? I assume not, but I didn't think Amazon sold bootlegs!

It is a bootleg CD from a majority of a Westwood One radio concert during the Green Tour. It is very surprising Amazon would be able to list this.

Who knows maybe it is getting an official release? I just clicked on the link and the cover art is different than the bootleg. I find it hard to beleive that the band would sanction it with the cover art depicting R.E.M. circa 1985 instead of 1989 when the concert actually took place, though.

Yes, bootleg indeed...and yes, very strange that it shows up like this.
Also if I remember correctly this is not a full show but actually a mix of songs from both April 29 and 30.
All exisiting versions available of this recording have pretty impeccable quality, so cannot see why anyone would need this.

The Perugia Festival 1989 CD is being sold through amazon sellers by an independent seller and clearly is the original bootleg. The Songs for a Green World CD is however being sold directly through Amazon and HMV with a UK release date of next week.
Is it possible that being a radio broadcast REM don't own the rights to the show? Could left field music have bought the music and are now putting it out legally? Does that fact that the show is over 20 years old have any bearing on this? Which would make this a grey market but not black market release? I'm not an expert on music law but this definitely looks more official than a usual bootleg but clearly isn't an authorised REM release.
Is it possible that this CD is more legal in some countries than others?
The cover photo might be from 85 but it is a pretty cool picture!

That is incorrect. It features a mashup of songs from the April 29 and April 30 shows of that year. The same mashup was originally FM broadcast and has since appeared on numerous bootlegs. I can't really see this as anything other than a bootleg and would suggest getting a torrent of the same recording instead. That torrent would also feature End of the World, which was on the original broadcast and is on most earlier bootlegs releases of it but which is missing on this release.

I actually saw this CD on sale in a shop in Dublin this week, I didn't buy it though as I wasn't sure what it was. I went home and googled it and ended up on this thread. From what I could see the packaging was very professionally done. I'll pick up a copy when I go in for my Part lies Part Heart Part Truth Part Garbage cd.

I actually ended up buying this when I found it as a vinyl release. Actually a really cool double LP package, on green see through vinyl(!) Still a very strange release in terms of "officialness".
