Seems to be a big fad here in Australia. Not sure why.  I'm seeing news stories almost everyday about people getting fired for planking in the work place and planking school kids getting disciplined. One poor planking guy died after falling off a multi-storey building.
Is this weirdo trend happening else where in the world?

I saw something on the news here about it but I think they were referring to Australia in the report.

That is completely nuts. I don't get it. How is that going to be fun or a thrill in any shape or form? Just balancing on the edges of tall structures?
I get stuff like skydiving and bungee jumping although I would never do them, it's obvious there's an adrenaline rush. But this? It's  just stupid.

More "hey world, look at MEEEE" pictures.... lol

They featured it on the news here too. The reporter actually asked the guy how long we could see the trend continuing.  :P

Yeah I think that's what it is.  My daughter told me today it's been going on for ages and the news media have started reporting it lately because of the poor planking guy who died.

YOu mean the idiot who was balanced on a balcony rail for a few seconds of internet fame? Sad that this is what people are doing now to get attention, but the root problem is why are they seeking so much attention in the first place.

I have never heard about this phenomenom here before so I don't think it's a global trend yet.

Even dogs are doing it.
"We were listening to the UNC radio (station) there and they were playing an R.E.M. song. I like R.E.M. fine, but at the end of it, the DJ says, 'Ya that was R.E.M., the sound of the new South'. I looked at my roommate and we said, Gawd, if that's the sound of the new South, I preferred it when it was on the skids. That's how we got the name."

That is so funny! Thanks!  I've sent this pic to a friend who like me doesn't understand this planking thing.  She's going to die laughing!

Every time I hear about planking I get the Alligator_Autopilot song in my head.

I think this is all evolution in action.

It's getting talked about rather a lot, isn't it?  My Mum was listening to the radio and the minister for health was being interviewed over bed numbers in the ER, and saying they would be able to increase capacity if they needed to. some old lady rang up and said, "125% capacity doesn't makes sense to me.  How can you get 125% capacity?  are you going to get the younger patients to plank between the beds?".  She apparently laughed very hard at her own joke.

What is going on there? Does it mean just lying prostrate somewhere? Or in dangerous places? Is it just for a lame photo-op or is there a purpose/meaning? Color me confused.

Now that the planking craze has started to die down it's now all about the "owling".

Gross. That looks like a family.

I think it's a sign of the times when lying flat on your face doing nothing is a trend.
