I knew it was there but I never really bothered to look into it.

Back in the nineties it was used quite a bit. Memory has faded but if it wasn't actually the Murmurs chatroom, it was certainly linked to it?
I know a song that will get on your nerves.

short answer: yes. long answer: but not by many people.
i do recall there being weekly attempts for big community meet-ups in there to get people to chat and i do believe that they were successful to a certain extent.

I did ages ago when it more more active. Fun times. More recently I've went in a couple of times since chat returned to murmurs, but nobody else came in, so I left and haven't been in there since. Oh well..
