I'm an unapologetic R.E.M. homer, but I came across this recent review of CIN from an Amazon.com user which really grinds my gears.

Quote

"I know you're 17 and you think this is the best album they've done since monster and REM still have it and you listen on the subway with your ipod speaker buds and it sounds exciting to you and what would i know about engineering sound and i'm just a hater who wants REM to fail. All I can say is I was there when Murmur sounded nothing like everything that was wrong about rock music in 1983, and now they're a textbook example of sounding like everything that's wrong about rock music in 2011."

I try to be tolerant of differing opinions, but I can't justify or understand the vitriol above. Perhaps its author just wasn't held enough as a child.

Yikes. Yeah.
I have no idea how people function without near-constant internal chaos. I'd lose my mind. ~ Dave Eggers

No worse than some things on here. It's just an opinion. Many people have favourite rem eras and choose to jump off at certain points. At least he cared enough to comment ( or troll?) better than ambivalence I suppose.

It´s cool to like a band when they are the under dogs and very few people know them. After 30 years, world tours and big time record deals a band is lucky to get a constant vitriolic jealous back lash. Inevitable.
It happened today.
