My Brother just moved into a house not so long ago, where he rents a room. My Brother has had a history of mental and suicidal problems for years now. Well we got a call close to 5am on Saturday Morning, that my Brother was holding a large knife up to his throat, etc. His roommate called 911. The cops arrived and tried to persuade him to put the knife down. He would not put the knife down, the officer was going to use the taser on him. My brother lunged at the officer with the knife and the officer shot him in the stomach. :( My Mother and I went to the hospital yesterday and it is a clean gun shot wound, no organs were damaged. Thank Goodness. He was sedated and in restraints when we went to see him.  There was an cop outside his hospital room. I was not able to go into the room but I could see him through the window. He said only Parents or his child would be allowed in. Once he is released from the Hospital he will most likely be taken to jail.

It was so sad seeing him with tubes and all. After tomorrow he will be taken off of sedation.

He's tried so many times to kill himself. I wish he would see that he must have a reason to live. Someone up there is always saving him.

He told the roommate "When the cops come I'll go after them with the knife and than they will kill me."  He didn't think, "What if I live, I will go to prison"

So many are fighting to stay alive and than there is people like my brother who are trying every way possible to end their lives.

Today a Nurse called and said he was taken off of sedation and was awake.

My Mother and nephew went to see him about 8 hours ago she still isn't home yet. She has a cell phone but never turns up the volume so she can hear it.  I hope she gets home soon with an update.

Thank You.  I assume he's okay.  He was hauled off to prison a week and a half ago where he is in a hospital ward still healing.  A few days ago someone did call my Mother to let her know how he is.  He was still in a great deal of pain.  Who wouldn't be after that.  He isn't a criminal just someone who has severe depression problems. I hope he can finally get the help he needs.  Hopefully there will be some real Psychiatric help instead of prison.

I am so sorry! Of course your brother needs help instead of prison. He is ill not an offender and I do hope he can get the psychiatric help he needs. When someone has mental problem, often their families are left alone, and it is so difficult for them to face the situation.
My best wishes, stipeeyes  :)

Am thinking of you and your family. What a nightmare for you. There just never seems to be enough help out there for "invisible" illnesses. You would hope now he will get the help he needs. You must feel so helpless having to watch him go through this, take care

Denise, I'm so sorry you are going through this. That's really terrible for the whole family to be going through. I hope the hearing goes well on tuesday.  It's really frustrating to see someone not getting the help they need and getting into worse problems because of it. :(
Take care.

So how did the hearing go?

My Brothers hearing went very quick.  He wasn't actually in the room.  He was held downstairs.  He was released from Prison yesterday (Monday) and sent to a rehabilitation facility where he can finally get some real help.  He will live there for 6-9 months.  I don't think there was any other jail sentencing.  He seems to have healed okay from the gunshot wound. He still is in shock that he actually survived. I spoke to him for the first time since this all happened, he sounds better than he has in years, and he sounds like jail really turned him around.  I sure hope it lasts.  He seems to realize how much stress he has put on his Son and family.  His Attorney had some good advice for him as well and his words must have sunk in.  So it's a huge relief he is no longer in Prison.  If he tries to leave the Facility he will be sent back to prison.   I'm going to think positive that he will finally get proper help and turn his life around.

What an ordeal for your brother and all of your family. Thankfully he got a compassionate judge who understands something of his illness.  I hope that it's a good rehab facility that's able to help him work through his problems and make the changes he needs.  It's sad that it takes something this extreme for him to get access to long term help. Positive thoughts to you and your brother.
