This is wonderful news.:)

Yes!!!  Surely her appeal will be successful.  Positive thoughts are winging their way from me to Julia and her family.

Let's hope the appeal will go through before the twelve months are over ...

All the best to Julia and her family.

Can she be free on bond until the appeal?

I'm assuming that if the appeal has been approved (which it has) then the powers that be must be confident that the process will happen and be resolved before Julia serves out her sentence. The entire process costs money, so I can't see them pushing it forward if it isn't going to happen soon enough to do any good.

In the worse case scenario, if the appeal doesn't happen soon enough to get Julia out of that place, then there is still a point to be made. The possibility that it may be futile because of time restraints shouldn't discourage anyone for standing up and fighting their corner, when they think that the sentence is wrong and there has been an injustice.  This is Julia's chance to say her piece and put her points forward.  Hopefully the system will listen this time....

If it is reversed upon appeal it would also mean that it wouldn't be on her record.

That's wonderful news Grace  :) Slinky, I hadn't thought of that at all. If that's the case in the UK too, and i've no reason to think it's not, then that will make it so much easier for Julia to get her life back on track when she gets home again.

On a personal note, I'm delighted to hear that your letter got through Grace. I've had nightmares about getting the numbers mixed up and giving out the wrong address! Since i've been copying and pasting it then everyone else will be getting it right too. Whew!!

It was all good - I know what you mean about numbers though, I am pushed to remember my own phone number, let alone anything else!!  It was great to hear back - she is made of tough stuff, but even I couldn't fail to be shocked by the regime in there as well as the day to day stresses.  The sooner they get her out of there, the better.

Would the appeal just be against the length/severity of her sentence?  From the article it says Julia and the boyfriend admitted to false imprisonment, so can this be over-ruled?

I have no idea about the law really, I guess it's something most of us never think about - well not in this context.

I'm keeping Julia in my thoughts, I really appreciated the warm welcome that she gave me, and countless other murmusians in the Introduce Yourself threads.

There seems to be an increase in publicity. On Friday I saw the story mentioned on BBC CEEFAX and it was in the Daily Mail on Saturday.

Good to hear about the appeal. I have to believe that someone out there will rule that this sentence isn't in the interest of the family or any of the individuals.

Unfortunately I don't stop in here as often as i should. I'm saddened by this whole story. I've been through similar situations with my brother and sister, both addicts, and I can ceetainly empathise with Julia and her family. It goes to show that no one can know what they'd do  given a certain situaton. Desperation drives us to do things that are wrong, but the brain doens't thihnk logically at the itme. I'm glad to hear she will have an appeal, and hopefully the ruling will be overturned, or at the least, reduced sentience, so she can be home. I aso hope that Tabby will decide she truly does need help, and finds her way to whatever type of rehanb programs they have inthe UK,and that it helps her, so she can get back to her life inside her family as well. I'll be keeping you all in my prayers!

Shit, this is awful. Will be checking Murmurs more often for updates. What's the current situation regarding petition / fb group? Is there anything I can do?

Hezalin, I'm sorry to hear that you have the same family problem. And you're right when you say that who knows what we could all do in such extreme circumstances? But I do know that Julia is a very loving mother and would never ever do anything to hurt her family unless under extreme stress. And from what I can gather she was very much a bystander in these 20 minutes of madness.

I spoke to Tim earlier and he has been busy today in a round of press interviews. daily Mirror, Daily mail, radio 2 and Five Live!! Julia phoned his house t
pphone while he was using his mobile so i don't know the full details yet. Will post when there's more to tell.

But it's good that the story is getting fresh coverage. I was getting a wee bit worried that it might be drifting away for a while.

A very sad story. Like others I have not been around here and just saw this. I am hoping that the appeals process will be quick and she will be out in no time. The legal system definitely failed here. I hope there continues to be momentum in the press with this story to light a fire under people who can make a difference. I am hoping that enough publicity will help keep her in the mind of potential employers when she gets out to know she is no criminal.

Well put Steve, especially the long-term importance of Julia's need to be employable again.

There is a new bit of good news this weekend!! Julia has been moved to a different prison--Send which is in Surrey I think. It's a Category C which hopefully will mean she has more visiting hours and other priviliges. I don't know much about it yet but will be able to say more and have a new address in the next day or two.

It was posted somewhere else that Tim was on Jeremy Vine on Thursday, he's about 1 min and 10 seconds into the programme.

He's on Victoria Derbyshire tomorrow on five Live, and also another article in tomorrow's Daily Mirror and the Daily Mail sometime this week too. So lots of publicity, lots of empathy and again the family would like to wish you all for your support.
