1st listening was very interesting, 2nd is growing a lot. What I like the most is that eventhough I read some comparisons to Try not to breathe or Drive it doesn't sound to me like that, it sounds fresh new stuff on this song, great lyrics and Stipe voice sound like his best years OOT/ATFP era.

Again agree. It sounds like Automatic? yes. But th eimportant thing is that emotion is different and also melody

Its a song i had in head, i just didnt know about it

NB : according to deezer, the song is 4:11 long.

I set timer on the sream link posted here, it is 4:14

great Single for Europe, now I get why 2 different singles. American Radio stations wouldn't play it as they may play MSLH.

I've just had 3 listeing on Überlin and it climbed fast to my favorite of the 5 heard songs.

ENOUGH!   already heard 40% of CIN,  I would wait for the pending 60% until March 8.

HOPE news from MSLH and Überlin OFICCIAL Music Videos next week.

The ONLY thing that pisses me off about this song...ok this will be a two in one is that: it's not the American single, and that they don't just forget the rockers at this point...All of the acoustic numbers have been fantastic.  This the best though. And Discoverer was good.  But Mine Smell Like Honey a bit forced, dime a dozen.  But who knows--in the context of the album, it really might work.

SO far, THREE very very good songs--and one now that is GREAT.  Maybe even two (Oh My Heart).  And when it's released, still Blue, still Me Marlon Brando...still more to hear.

And this a very great song.  It sounds like REM and yet...it doesn't sound like Automatic.  It doesn't even sound early 90s.  It sounds different.  Sounds current.  Stipe isn't imitating old style lyrics, but the new style lyrics work.  The music is beautiful.  The rhythm is perfect.  FRESH goodness.  Ah.

It's alright. Doesn't have the gravitas of IHT for me personally. But I do agree with another poster above, it sounds current and not some throwback to Automatic era.

Ah... I'm not blown away, after 3 listens. I just kinda like it. I feel the same about Country Feedback, I find it... melodically dry. But that's just my opinion. Maybe it will grow on me.

It's the poison that it measures
Brings illuminating vision
It's the knowing with a wink
That we expect in Southern women
It's the wolf that knows which root to dig to save itself
It's the octopus that crawled back to the sea.

Hmm... Ok, maybe its a grower.? I like it, its not my favorite of these 5, but its ok.
But I do not believe this one will arouse people's interest.

I take back, sort of, my complaint about "Mine Smell Like Honey" because, going back and listening to all of the others, and then that, it does sound like it fits and makes sense on the album.

As for what we know of the album so far, the Automatic comparisons don't work because this is a genuinely summery album, maybe springtime, in a way that the autumnal Automatic isn't.  And in a way that Reveal, which tried to be summery, wasn't (it was like walking into a steamy, muggy hothouse--not the real thing); and in a way that Accelerate, which tried to pack in heat but which was without any season at all, wasn't.

its a very pretty song and it grows on every listen, but it's never going to be a LMR.
There's no hook.

IHT is far superior and more moving.

strange choice for the first single really. i would have thought AAAA just from the trailer clips would make a greater impression.

its a solid REM song tho.

That's what I thought too, melodically it's very straight and there are no surprises, experiments or solos/interludes or whatever.. for example where are those weird noises from the studio clips? they are so much burried under the music, I thought they were going to be characteristic for this song!

but anyway, the melodies are very catchy, I already catch myself humming the song in my head repeatedly, so it must be an earworm ;)

Tears Flowing down onto my keyboard.   I was really, really hoping for a song that blows be away.   The kinda song that takes a good album and gives it a special moment...

and the verdict, this is Far better than I was even hoping for its wonderful, brilliant, grows, builts, lifts!  Lyrics are great.    Im going to be on a high all weekend now!

Anyone else hearing a lot of pilgramage in this song?  This is a good thing btw.

10000000000000000 thanks REM.

Did you really want those sounds to be a prominent part of one of the new songs?
R.E.M. records from the beginning are full of barely audible background noise...which I loved.
Anyway, I always assumed that gurgling would be way in the back, there's nothing melodic about it.
It shows up in the bridge though, if you can't hear it.

ABSOLUTELY !

When I saw the studio clip and heard the fanclub dub mix I though the song was a rocker... You don't use those noises for low-tempo songs! You can actually hear them (I just made them out) during the middle 8 (which is not as bad as the ones of Oh My Heart and Mine Smell Like Honey).

Holy hell... Love this one.

Reminds me very much of the REM of old, but it sounds very new. I think it is easily my favorite of the five we've heard. Was excited about the album, MSLH got me down a bit, but now I'm excited again. What a three song progression we have with Uberlin, Oh my Heart, and IHT...

Awesome.
