They do say after each album is made that it's their best yet. If Peter said that about ATS he was lying as he later admitted he didn't think it was that good.  It does have some really good songs. If they do feel really excited about the songs hopefully they will want to do some shows and play them live.

We always wind up seeing the track list months before the album is released. And we always wind up saying how much we like or do not like songs before we even hear them.   :D

So we'll never get to hear the studio version of Staring down the barrel and on the fly...    On the Fly was definetely out, it didn't made the last two albums, but Staring down the barrel I thought it might be in this one.

It will be great if this album or any song doesn't leak,  I miss the vintage feeling of opening an album and play it all for the first time, without ever hearing any snipp or a single chord.

Not necessarily, just that particular title bugs me.

You're missing the point. If it's only the music then you're telling me you wouldn't be least bit a little disappointed if each album artwork was boring White every time and songs were called Song 1, Song 2 etc.

Sadly, for a whole lot of folks, album cover artwork has become completely inconsequential. Still, yes, it comes down to the music for me, I could care less about song titles or if a song title is also used as the name of the album. None of those things detract from the music itself.

I think the folks that keep crying about a studio version of Staring Down the Barrel of the Middle Distance should just be happy they released it all on the Olympia album. They obviously weren't very fond of it for inclusion on Accelerate so chances are, it will never see the light of day as an officially released studio version. Then again, there's always the holiday single but methinks it's time has passed.

A leak these days is just as important as releasing a hit single. If it doesn't leak, then that doesn't bode well for the future of the album. Even if it does leak (which it most likely will), that doesn't mean you have to listen to it. I guess it just depends on how much willpower (or lack thereof) you have. If you're actively seeking out a leak of the album that would seem to indicate you don't want to be surprised by hearing it for the first time on the day of release. I know I have no problem waiting for official releases whether it be R.E.M. or anyone else.
"We were listening to the UNC radio (station) there and they were playing an R.E.M. song. I like R.E.M. fine, but at the end of it, the DJ says, 'Ya that was R.E.M., the sound of the new South'. I looked at my roommate and we said, Gawd, if that's the sound of the new South, I preferred it when it was on the skids. That's how we got the name."

...My favourite title has to be the 'Alligator Aviator Autopilot Antimatter' which sounds pretty cool. Some of them sound a bit emotional, like 'all the best' 'Oh my heart'. 'Mine smells like honey' sounds funny, it makes me curious. That someone is you sounds romantic.
...
Now let some snippets of the songs be released.  :)

If it's all coming with surprise 'Oh my heart' sounds like going to the doctor.
'That someone is you' reminds me to "The Apologist" or another upcoming truth. :o
And 'Blue' to "I've been high". Whatever...
And that A-quad to a vehicle.

And no, no snippets please, I wanna get the surprise in a whole!

Looks like a bunch of interesting song titles.  This just builds my excitement even more.
Looking forward to hearing them on purchase of CIN in the American Spring 2011.
If I had a magic fast forward button I certainly wouldn't use it to get to the release date faster.  Why would I wish my life away?
That someone just pulled me up and out of cartoon quicksand.

Maybe it'll appear on this years holiday single?

Forget the song titles though, this is the clip that excites me most about the album so far!

My favourite clip thus far too. I hope the album sounds organic & not compressed to death. There is no excuse for it really.

It sounds lovely!
That horn sound reminds me of a band I love called Beirut.

My guess is that, if this is anywhere on the album, it's on whichever song is said to be like the "Houston" with a New Orleans feel to it..."Oh My Heart" I believe...

Sounds very promising, I agree.

While we are over analyzing things (and why not? of course the music will speak for itself--but the packaging and titles are, however indirectly, a part of the music--Dylan in a Triumph Motorcycle t shirt on the cover of Highway 61 needs to be read as a part of the album (for instance)): on remhq currently, they have a side-bar advertising the album and with the track-listing.  I draw attention to the font and general style and am a fan of both.  The heavy lettering, the black and white photographs, the dots in the names--it all reminds me of Green and NAIHF.

I wonder if Peter really has 20/20 vision  ?

No, he's longsighted. But obviously he doesn't need his specs in the studio.
