i think during the monster tour they could've been called a stadium band, or during 1999they played and sold out a lot of stadiums

For Green and Monster they played lots of indoor arenas (10,000-20,000) in the U.S., but few if any stadiums (30,000+). The Up tour in the U.S. was pretty much all outdoor amphitheatres.
These days I'd like to see them do a theater tour or even a club tour, but I'm not holding my breath.

I think this poster is just playing around. Its not like REM is a stadium tour band here in the US (anymore).
That's what I guessed. Don't know why I even responded to that!

The only time the guys have played a stadium in the United States is at the Tibetan Freedom concert in 1998, and if you count opening for the Police a few times. In Europe of course they play mostly stadiums.

I'm thinkin' that any venue where you can't spit and hit the wall opposite the stage is an admirable feat, and to have said venue even partway filled is a purty good turnout....

Figured I'd bump this subject up since I'm sure there are many wondering what kind of shows, if any, we're going to get for this album.

I dare not even think about. Accelerate was agony. My only hope is that if they do go on the road and decide to exclude certain countries from their "world" tours that they have the decency to say so up front, as in - announce all cities in advance, to allow us to at least figure out if we have the $$/time to go intercontinental for some shows.

I hope there will be a tour !! Does anyone know when they will make the announcement ?? Roughly ? I live far from Europe and America, so I need loads of time to get my act together !!

I'm guessing they tour. They have lifestyles they need to support. The album is not going to sell well in the States so a tour will probably be necessary.

Yeah, I'm sure that after 60 million sold albums they need to tour next unless Michael Stipe wants to move out of his NYC penthouse...

These guys are set for life already. They definitely don't need to tour if they don't feel up to it. Besides, I don't think touring brings in the big bucks these days.

Some folks seem to think this is going to be their last album. If so, I would think they would also like to get in one last tour.
"We were listening to the UNC radio (station) there and they were playing an R.E.M. song. I like R.E.M. fine, but at the end of it, the DJ says, “Ya that was R.E.M., the sound of the new South.” I looked at my roommate and we said, “Gawd, if that's the sound of the “new South," I preferred it when it was on the skids.” That's how we got the name.”

My gut feeling is that they'll tour, even if it's on a limited basis. I interviewed Mike a week or so ago, and he said they hadn't made a decision just yet. But this record seems like it's tailor made to be played out live.

well i really hope that if they do tour, they play a proper show in ireland instead of a 20 song festival set. in 2008 i was so looking forward to hearing some of the old classics they'd dug out for the tour but instead we just got a regular festival set. which is pretty understandable as im sure the majority of people there would've only been familiar with the hits.

Well, looks like No Tour is the case --
So it comes as no surprise since we haven’t heard anything about it, anyway, but the official word is R.E.M. is not touring with the new record, “Collapse Into Now,” due out March 8. The ever lovely Bertis Downs, R.E.M. manager, said the simple answer is the band doesn’t tour with every album and this is one of those cases.
I don't have anything to say about this. I just like your username.
