Not sure where to post this, but today is the 200th anniversary of the beginning of the emancipation process from the spanish crown. I have mixed feelings about this, as I feel there are many issues that are the same of even worse than 200 years ago but we've gone through a lot in these 200 years and I'm proud of all of the things we achieved in such short period of time. We have gone through a lot and we still ache for some of it, but that didn't stop us from keep on going, no matter what.

2010 finds us fighting for the equality of civil rights for gay people, which will hopefully be approved next month, with the incarceration of the hundreds of militars who participated in the desapariciones and murder of 30,000 people. We're also trying to rebuild the educational system, which after many years of exclusive policies now it's more equal and inclusive, especially for those who have been denied with the right of an education.

We still have a long way to go and there are a lot of things we never did -nor do- right, but given we've started from scratch so many times, it has to count for something.

2010 is also the year for many other latin american countries' anniversaries and I'm glad to see we're united as a region, despite the efforts of many to avoid that.

Bless you, my child, for though you have sinned against the Dutchman, you have lightened my spirit and enabled me to leave the path of terror for the verdant fields of vengeance, though with no blood on my hands. For once. In The Corner

I don't think so... Ithink our president talk more than she does, maybe she's living in a parallel world
The education here is falling down rapidly...
Anyway I'm glad of bicentenary, others things are right !

You should read the new 'marco gral de politicas educativas' and the new law as well, as the new system is aimed for those who have been left out from the former educational system. I do agree the current situation is bad, but there is a lot to reconstruct from the past 40 years of crappy and neoliberal educational policies. I think this was pretty much implied in my " We're also trying to rebuild the educational system" bit in my first post.
