I have to say, having lived most of my life in a former socialist/communist country, that the system wasn't nearly as bad as what followed it --> i.e. this "transition" towards capitalism... :(
I mean, the idea of communism -- that there should be no social/class/racial/religious divisions, i.e. that we should all be equal -- was a noble one indeed. It's just that the execution was extremely poor, because some pigs were more equal than others.

I've lived most of my life in a christian democrat/communist countryas well (as far as commuist party is concerned); we still have a small communist party, but the biggest of it change its name and  became: Social Democrat  Partyfirst and, then 2 years ago,  Democratic Party. Most part ofpeople who votefor it are ex communists, ecologists, Progressive Catholics and Progressive Protestants... I used to vote for italian commust party (I just vote for it  3 times as before I was too young to vote) which was absolutely
democratic. Now I am a socialist-ecologist individual as I try to take care for our platet, animals and so on: I'm conviced green-economy/sustainable developement can put and end to neo-liberism which is destroyingour planet, our lives everywhere with its greed, iperconsumism... I'd like to live in an ecologist-socialist country and world (pure utopia). I  agree with you, Ivana: the communist or socialist tenets of equality, no social, religious differences are noble (let's forget ex Soviet Union and the other so-called Socialist Countries: socialist where? And obviously 'te dictatoriat of the proletariat' was very wrong (dictatoriat!), I mean the leninist interpretation of Marx was wrong. I like the Labourist Party, but I think there are some problems now just like in Italy with PD. I hope France 'the Gauche' victory in France can teach us something.
