Talk show... ah yes! That reminds me. Last night on the Late Late Show, Craig got an email from a person in Athens, Georgia, and happily chimed "That's where R.E.M. is from! You're welcome... actually people in their 40s".

I've just watched the show, and the host actually annoyed the hell out of me, especially when he harrassed Stipe that he should write songs about girls. But it's so good to see Peter smile... his comment about keeping his mandolin in a very little closet had me in stitches.

Colbert isn't like that in real life, it's just a character, or that's at least what I took from his Rolling Stone interview.

That giant chair part was odd and Michael telling him to cross his legs was funny.

Everything Colbert says is actually meant to be sarcasm.   He can be annoying but if you "get" his humor he can also be very very funny.

I thought the songs about girls thing was pretty funny, but then the Colbert Report is one of my favorite shows. It's amazing he can stay in character for some of the things he does, like the White House Correspondents' Dinner. Anyway, I'm an "it getter" as he says. So I heard at one time that the tall stool thing was a nod to Andy Kaufman, but I can't seem to verify that now. It's the only time he's used it.

Thanks for filling me in on Colbert - lol I did figure out that he's a comedian, but I still found him kinda obnoxious... :o Luckily the R.E.M. boys were good sports. :)
