Yeah, I read this and wondered what it might be. Definitely not the release date for the new album. :p Maybe some kind of performance? Or what else could it be?

maybe it's going to be a one off performance of new material, something like the working rehersals in 2007

I'm sorry to be pessimistic but "news of special interest" doesn't sound like a show. If it was then I'd like to think HQ would announce something more like "shockingly exciting news that you never expected to hear until 2010 at the earliest".

Maybe they've got another font to add to our collection, or a new design for the website. Maybe a sale on at the store:rolleyes:

But you never know -- I'm off to Glasgow on Monday to see U2 so I'm going to take mobile broadband, just in case :D You never know, maybe Michael's going to do a guest duet with Bono there, or maybe he's going to the Edinburgh Festival, I've often wondered if he'd show up there sometime. I live in hope!
Enjoy yourself with no regrets :D

Something to do with the release of the Dublin rehearsals perhaps? I do think the news on Radiohead could be an album release date, they have some new songs leaking apparently.

"Of course you liked early R.E.M. best," I want to say. "You were 17 years old and drunk on tequila and in love with a girl who didn't know you existed, and 'Harborcoat' summed up your melancholy mood like it was written just for you."

I'm not sure what the Radiohead announcement is but I recently read they no longer plan to release full length albums, just singles and EPs.

"We were listening to the UNC radio (station) there and they were playing an R.E.M. song. I like R.E.M. fine, but at the end of it, the DJ says, 'Ya that was R.E.M., the sound of the new South'. I looked at my roommate and we said, Gawd, if that's the sound of the new South, I preferred it when it was on the skids. That's how we got the name."

why would they pre-announce an announcement?  this kind of stuff bugs me.... it gets my hopes up about something exciting and it ALWAYS disappoints.

Oh and just in case anyone at REMHQ is reading this.....the period between the Dublin rehearsals and the end of the Accelerate tour was the fan-dork equivalent of water-boarding for this aussie  [not to diminish the horrors of water-boarding, but well...you know what I mean]...it's pretty much made me immune to caring and turned me in to a cynic about anything that might normally have intrigued me.

So really, all I can say is, "shove it up yer bum". ......er, unless it IS actually something really cool, in which case.....woohoo!

Interesting. The latest rumour is an ep:

http://pitchfork.com...ntire-internet/
A couple days have passed since a (possibly) new Radiohead song (seemingly) titled "These Are My Twisted Words" popped up on the message board of the Radiohead fan site At Ease (apparently via torrent tracker site what.cd), but we still have no official word on the track.

Of course, that's not stopping obsessives from hitting message boards and blogs with their own theories, some more believable than others.

(Also, it should be noted that Capitol's deluxe reissues of Kid A, Amnesiac, and Hail to the Thief are due out August 25. The band had no input into these reissues. What a coincidence...)

The most popular (and optimistic) theory at the moment puts forth the idea that "Twisted Words" is from a new Radiohead EP called Wall of Ice that will hit the internet super hard on Monday. (Via At Ease.) According to an anonymous tipster, the original leaked track was bundled with a geeked-out info file  filled with ASCII art, nonsensical jargon, and a possible release date of August 17. The message ends with the words "Wall of Ice" made up of all "@" symbols. This could be a reference to an anti-entertainment industry cartoon that likened the digital revolution to an unstoppable wall of ice set to crush any and all corporate interests (via CNET). Or it could not be.

While the whole "fuck the man" wall of ice thing seems a bit on-the-nose for Radiohead, the new EP theory is supported by recent cryptic quotes from members of the band, too. In a recent Believer interview, Thom Yorke said, "We've got this great idea for putting things out but I can't tell you what it is, because someone will rip it off."

And in a story from today's Australian, guitarist Jonny Greenwood floated this nugget: "Traditionally we'd be looking for 10 or 11 songs and putting them together, but that doesn't feel as natural as it used to, so I don't know what we'll do. Maybe we'll find four songs that work together and we'll call that a release. I don't know."

We do know the band were in their studio with producer Nigel Godrich earlier this year. And they're clearly not against springing new music on an unsuspecting public. Monday is only a weekend away, folks.

Another theory pushes the notion that "Twisted Words" might be the rumored-about Thom Yorke track written for the new Twilight movie, New Moon, and leaked by an overzealous fan associated with the movie. An admirably nerdy MTV report even tells us that the song's lyrical themes seemingly jive with the themes of New Moon. So, like so many other things nowadays, this could all just be much ado about Twilight.

No matter what the outcome, we have to imagine the playfully mysterious group are tickled by the online hubbub-- somewhere, Thom Yorke is refreshing his RSS and laughing. But the deafening churn of the rumor mill covers up one tiny detail: If this really is a new Radiohead song ushering in some sort of new era for the band, isn't the song itself a little-- dare I say-- slight?

"Of course you liked early R.E.M. best," I want to say. "You were 17 years old and drunk on tequila and in love with a girl who didn't know you existed, and 'Harborcoat' summed up your melancholy mood like it was written just for you."

.......and another thing, I hate it when I try to pretend I don't give a hoot and then I actually start counting the hours 'til monday, and then I realise that Monday isn't in 7 hours and 36 minutes in Athens, Georgia.  Argh, screw you REM!  :p

It will probably be a t shirt sale or more fonts.

oh yeah, I know it'll be something silly but then I start over-thinking it and driving myself nuts.

when they say, there's gonna be an announcement and they give the day the announcement is going to be made, it makes you think that there is a reason why you need to be paying attention on that particular day.

argh!

realistically it has to be information on the rehearsal shows from 2007 at best. or it could be another R.E.M. Tribute night,
At worse will be another sale (not that sales are bad) or another font set.

R.E.M. LIVE - Manchester MEN Arena 17/07/1999, Manchester Old Trafford CCC 13/07/2003, Sheffield Arena 21/02/2005, Sheffield Arena 15/06/2005, Manchester Old Trafford CCC 17/06/2005, Hull KC Stadium 5/07/2005

I fully agree, this kind of pre-announcement (lol) only makes sense when they want to make sure that fans actually read the news on Monday - e.g. something really limited that is on sale on that day ... if it is a future release which people can buy days after there is no point to announce an announcement, as you said.

So I am hoping for something really interesting. I don't think remhq will piss us off by making a really unimportant announcement on Monday.
