In an interview with German INTRO magazine (#174, August 2009), Bloc Party guitarist Russel Lissack answers, when asked what was the best festival performance he saw in his life:

"R.E.M. 1998 at the Glastonbury festival. They managed to make everybody feel good although it was once again one of these typical Glastonbury mud battles"

[edit: sorry in the article it says 1998 but he must have talked about 1999? It's impossible to edit the title, though.]

does anybody have a recording of this? i've heard loads of brilliant things about the show, but never heard any songs from it

Of course the guy was wrong when he said 1998, he must have talked about 1999? I'll try to edit the title of the thread.

There should be a full recording of this available, it showed up many years after the fact.

Here's a performance on youtube of Finest Worksong.  Stipey has the loosest hips I've ever seen.  LOL! And he likes to box.
