"We were listening to the UNC radio (station) there and they were playing an R.E.M. song. I like R.E.M. fine, but at the end of it, the DJ says, 'Ya that was R.E.M., the sound of the new South'. I looked at my roommate and we said, Gawd, if that's the sound of the new South, I preferred it when it was on the skids. That's how we got the name."

For those of you living in Southern California, or plan to be in the Southern California area on Friday, August 28th, The Minus Five/Baseball Project/Steve Wynn IV will be giving a FREE SHOW at Lake Arrowhead Village, CA. Lake Arrowhead Village is located about two hours east of Los Angeles off either the I-210 or I-10 and just north of the city of San Bernardino in the San Bernardino Mountains. Show starts at 6:30 p.m. and runs until????? Lake Arrowhead Village is a great place to relax and party. The beer, wine, and good food will be flowing! Stores in The Village are "pet friendly" as long as your pet is well-behaved, but they do not allow pets within the concert facility. There's plenty of great places to stay in Lake Arrowhead Village, but I'd recommend booking a room well in advance, as August 28th will be the beginning of a holiday weekend (Labor Day) in the U.S. Actually, Labor Day weekend is the weekend following the weekend that the Minus 5/Baseball Project/Steve Wynn IV are doing their free show, now that I think about it. Nevertheless, if you plan to "party" and don't wanna drive the mountain roads home, you may wanna seriously consider spending the night up in Lake Arrowhead. No reason to be stoopid [sic] about it and get into an accident or something. I'm just sayin'... For more info, check out: http://www.lakearrowheadvillage.com
So, come on up and party with us on August 28th!

This is one of the shows where they'll be doing the Dream Syndicate's Medicine Show record in it's entirety. I'd love to go too but a Friday or Saturday night would work out better for me logistically. Still, I haven't ruled it out. Though, I'm sure tickets will go pretty quick.

Steve Wynn & the Miracle 3 are going to be in Los Angeles on July 9th to do "The Medicine Show" elpee in its entirety, and I've already got my tix. Can't wait. Can't wait. Can't wait.

According to Pollstar, Minus 5/Baseball Project/Steve Wynn will be at the Cat's Cradle on Saturday 9/26. I have no idea if this includes Steve doing the full Medicine Show album or not, but will be attending regardless since I've never seen Steve/The Dream Syndicate nor either of these incarnations of Scott/Peter before.

Thanks. That definitely saves me a trip to Atlanta.

I went and saw Steve Wynn & the Miracle 3 do the entire Medicine Show elpee track-by-track at The Echo Club in Los Angeles on Thursday night. Excellent! I spoke to Steve & his wife, Linda (who is one hot babe and a killer drummer no less), and they confirmed that they would be doing some Dream Syndicate songs on the upcoming Minus 5/Baseball Project/Steve Wynn IV tour, but they did not confirm one way or the other that they would play the entire Medicine Show album during that tour...but the idea was not ruled out, either.

Schweet! I'll be happy to hear them play anything from the DS years. I haven't picked up anything involving Steve since The Dream Syndicate other than The Baseball Project and Gutterball. Will have to pick up his latest.

Oh shit, bro! You gotta get some of Steve Wynn's solo stuff if all you're really familiar with is his Dream Syndicate years and the Gutterball stuff, which is also excellent, by-the-way. For starters, I would pick up his album, Tick...Tick...Tick (Red Eye/Down There label) first, then work your way backwards to Static Transmission (on the Blue Rose/Down There label and available as a deluxe limited edition). Once you have those, if you're really into them, you'd then probably wanna check out My Midnight (released in 1999 on Zero Hour records) or maybe Sweetness & Light (from the late '90s and again on Zero Hour label). Those would be my suggestions, but I'd definately track down Tick...Tick...Tick first, and go from there.

In honor of the Cat's Cradle making the date official I broke out some Gutterball over the weekend.

Seeing them in Philadelphia on September 15th. I have never been to Philadelphia nor seen a Minus 5 show, so I can't wait!

I reserve the right to be absolutely giddy about this. Fangirl squealing optional.
Really, I'm just happy that I don't have to fight Atlanta traffic now! Athens for the win!:p

Amen, Sister!! You'll have a ball, and you can walk home!
Looks like Chi-Town is the closest they'll get to me, and that's 5 hours away! Could be a road trip.......
Oh, and fangirl squealing is not optional, its required! :D

Yey! If a lot of things work out, and I’m going to do everything I can to make sure they do (I got my driver’s license today, one step in the right direction), I will be there! If it works out it'll be my first visit to Athens, Ga and the first time seeing any of M5/Baseball Project/Steve Wynn live. Can’t wait!
