We don't get it over here.  I think.  Not that I've gone looking for it. I was just glad to get out of Moscow before the event.

Are you kidding? The whole event is a f....g piss take. All those eastern countries vote for the other eastern ones. There's nearly no chance for a good "western" song to win. And if you've ever listened to one of those songs which are presented there you won't ask anymore

Leave me in peace with that stupid shit (sorry for these words ;))

I'm just thankful there are no threads about the Creed reunion.

Gotta take the small blessings where we can get them.

I have watched it almost every year, but Jutta is right, the fun factor is gone with Ukraine giving Russia twelve points and Russia giving twelve points right back to them. The songs are generally quite poor, too.

All it does is to leave you with bleeding ears and a broken spirit. But the voting process is probably vital for maintaining peace between some neighbouring countries!

That was awesome.

Your memory is hazy.  I'm too young to remember, but I do remember it being in the news last year.  Cliff came second in 1968, but last year there were claims that he was robbed after Spanish dictator Franco rigged the vote:

Ha ha ha! Actually, I have to admit that I don't actually remember Cliff winning, I just know that he did!

That's what he thinks, too.  But coming second didn't hurt his song's success, as I do remember it being played repeatedly on the radio as I was growing up.  Not my happiest childhood memory.

You say that like it's a bad thing.   :p

The piss-take is what makes it compelling......the audacity of the eastern block to so blatantly rig the vote is hilarious.  If nothing else it ensures Britain is always a no-show in the finals, gotta love that.  mwahaha!

Oh well, excuse me, missy, but Eurovision made spanish singer Sergio Dalma famous in 1991 with his song 'Bailar pegados' (dancing closely), a true classic of the castilian musical culture. You might be asking what's the big deal about that song, so I'm going to recreate the chorus:

'Dancing closely is dancing
just like the sea does,
with the dolphins'

The poetry in this song is a true gem, making it a timeless classic. So next time you criticize Eurovision, please think of that chorus line I've just posted.
