Oh dear, this is a sad event. It must be a bit scary for the town, not knowing where the suspected perpetrator is.

It happened right off of Prince Avenue, which runs through downtown Athens. A UGA professor killed his wife and two men and injured two others. It was a community theatre group having a luncheon; all of the victims were at the luncheon.
The shooter is still at large and there are helicopters all over downtown and a lot of nervous people. There's also a HUGE bike race going on in downtown, so the police are having to deal with about 30,000 extra people.
Peter did play last night at the Flyers' show; also in attendance were Scott McC, Bill R, Micheal, and Bill Berry. They were all probably still asleep when it happened!

I'm pretty sure Buck, McCoi, and Rieflin were heading out of town tonight.
Yeah, not a good situation here. I've been getting alerts from the campus police and Athens radio all day. Basically, the guy shot five people at the Town and Gowns Players annual alumni meeting. Three people died, the other two were shot in the leg and foot. The Shooter is still at large.
We're all really worried because Twilight, the annual bike race, is a huge event and runs through parts of downtown. I didn't know that professor but my boss and coworkers live in that neighborhood and we're all currently dealing with the helicopters overhead.
Just a sad day.

Here's an update from about 10:30PM Central time. A previous story said the suspect had his children with him, but apparently they have been located and are safe - but certainly not okay.

This is really sad news!
It always is, when this happens, ofcourse, but when you walked the streets where it happened it comes 'closer' to you...
This is what athensheraldbanner online tells us:

This is what athensheraldbanner online tells us:
Quote
A nationwide search was under way Saturday for a University of Georgia professor who police say shot and killed his wife and two men at an Athens theater gathering.
Current and former members of Town and Gown Players, a long-standing community theater group off Prince Avenue, had gathered for an annual reunion about noon when George Zinkhan started arguing with someone, left briefly and returned with two handguns, according to Athens-Clarke police Capt. Clarence Holeman.
Zinkhan fired several shots, Holeman said, killing three people: Tom Tanner, 40; Ben Teague, 63; and Zinkhan's wife, Marie Bruce, 47. All three were involved with the theater company. Two other victims were wounded and taken to Athens Regional Medical Center.
Zinkhan left his two young children in the car, and after the shooting, dropped off the children with a Bogart neighbor and left, saying there was an emergency, according to police. The children did not see the shootings, authorities said.
Holeman raised the possibility that the shooting could be a crime of passion. ...etc.

I agree. That's not too far from where Mike and Michael live. Living in Philly I'm used to hearing about murders, sometimes multiple unfortunately on a daily basis. I know Athens has their share of violence but not nearly as much as a major city. So sad how a person's mind can just snap it seems without warning.
