I've heard that Obama likes REM, so what are the chances that they could play at one of the Inauguration events?

How cool would that be?  I'll be keeping my fingers crossed, I would love to see the guys at this.

so, hey...we may as well  have some fun with this idea.

.....what 3 songs, drawing from REMs entire catalogue, would you choose if they were to play at President Obama's inauguration?

Wow, that'd be the best gig to get since the violin players got the gig on the Titanic!

During his recent interview with Jeff Tweedy, Stephen Colbert brought up the possibility of Wilco playing at the inauguration. I think that would be appropriate, being from Chicago and everything..

Because of the titles:

1. Walk Unafraid
2.  It's a Free World Baby
3. Living Well is the Best Revenge

I would be curious to hear what songs would represent the George Bush Presidency.

I would love to see them play:

These Days
I Believe
and Patti Smith's People Have The Power

I think that would be great, of course they will have to ask Obama what his favorite song is and then play that!

I know there are tons of artists who are Obama supporters, I just hope the guys get a chance to play.

I think:

Begin the Begin
I Believe
and MOTM - just for the sake of throwing in a big hit the crowd know - and (forgetting the 1000001 times it's been played live) - it gets the crowds going!!!
ho hum!

I don't really understand Living Well as a choice, I always thought it was intended to be a deeply sarcastic and ironic use of that phrase.

I'll throw in Begin the Begin and Stand (yes, somehow Stand seems like it might be appropriate, in an odd and goofy way)

My boyfriend and I are going down for the Inauguration. We are staying at a friend's place in Virginia and taking the subway in. We expect it to be completely nuts...yet completely inspiring.

Kos has a very cool replay of election night if anyone wants to relive it again. I've watched it a few times today to keep me buzzing with excitement. I will cherish the calling of Ohio for Barack forever.

Or as Rachel Maddow started her show last night, "Yes, it's still true: Barack Obama is still President-Elect..." :D

AND it was nice for the first time in years to actually be able to watch and listen to my (soon to be) President giving a press conference today
without cringing or feeling horrified .

weirdly, I thought of Stand too.  I don't even like the song much, but I think it'd be a good choice for the day, and I don't even really know why.

While I do not think they will play it, the song that really encapsulated for me since November 2004 has been Around the Sun.

Could it be that Michael Stipe was prophetic?

There were many moments that after Kerry lost in 2004 that this song in a way kept me believing that there would be that opportunity.

And then some guy named Obama came on the scene. Reading the lyrics, the mood and the feel it became a bit of a themesong for me.

However the three songs that would make the most sense are

Begin the Begin
These Days
I Believe

Thoses were my original 3 - but thought it was a bit LRP heavy!!  Then again they could do the whole album and it would all be good!!
