I thought it would be appropriate to bring up this old thread now that these are REALLY songs R.E.M. will never play live.
Maybe they’ll play 1 last show with all the songs never or rarely played.
Now that would be a cool finale to this band.

Technically, although not a full blown concert, several of them were played live to a select few at Hansa; there are videos on youtube. It would be nice if this made it's way into the world as a commerically available DVD at some point.
Give me a minute and I'll tell you the setup for the worst joke ever

They played Beat a Drum when I saw them in 2003 in Cleveland. Although it was a treat to hear such a rarely played song, the weather wasn't suited for it, IMO, since it's such a "summery" song. It was turning into Autumn and was freezing in an outdoor venue. Michael even made a few comments about how cold it was that night. He did add a "I love that song..." when Beat a Drum was over.
Long belated reply, but lucky you! It's one of my all-time faves of theirs, the latest such in their catalogue.
I looked for it,
And I found it,
Miles Standish proud,
Congratulate me. ...
Answer me a question,
I can't itemize, I can't think clearly,
To me for reason it's not there,
I can't even rhyme ...

I never saw them play "Superman." I know they played it a few times here and there, but for me, it just didn't happen.
