Wow--it sounds a wonderful night :)
And hopefully this is the last time it's ever even nearly mentioned--it sounds as though the guys made a supreme effort to make sure this show was remembered for all the right reasons :D

I so agree - For me, if they had subbed Nightswimming for New Test Leper (or possibly Electrolite), it would have been nigh on perfect!
I kept waiting for Nightswimming..... Every time Mr Mills sat down I thought here we go.....
But hey, it didnt matter.... Agree that Leper was just "quite good" rather than stunning....
As for the guy that taped it... I love u

Yeah - it was pretty obvious to me that New Test Leper hadn't been played before, as it wasn't as tight as the rest of the set for me. Always good to get a surprise though isn't it? And I don't mean to seem ungrateful, as we truly did get a wonderful setlist last night - it's just that Nightswimming might just be my all-time fave (most of the time anyway - these things can change!). At least I got to see it in '05 at the stadium, with Michael sitting on the piano as he sang. :)

What's the quality of the taping like?
I had a great time, and thanks to the guys who have done the tour stats, I knew which songs were the least played, which made me enjoy it even more :)

Nothing to add to the reviews, it was fantastic, better than Manchester, makes me sad that I'm not going to any more, but delighted to hear it was taped!

Excellent photos, Mike!
BTW, my videos still aren't showing on the remcardiff tour page, which is also pulling photos from three years ago. And the tag-of-the-day on Murmurs is 24 hours out of sync.

Yeah, I spotted the old photos, but whoever uploaded them tagged them with #remcardiff, I don't imagine the script they're using is smart enough to check the timestamp!

They're my photos, and I guess I forgot that I used that tag in 2005. Temporality could be built in for future projects.

It's funny because he'd threatened to do it in Manchester too - said "I broke another one" and then talked about how he had them made by the same guy as Iggy Pop but that it had only taken him a couple of shows to break his first one. He said something like "anyone want a souvenir" at that point, but couldn't follow through because the pit was so big...
Couldn't have happened to a nicer bloke, he was one of the first to arrive and really friendly at both shows. :) I do have visions of his wife going "And what do you suppose we're going to do with *THIS*?" though.

Michael gave away his broken microphone stand in Nice, too, and it went to a person from Cardiff as well. :D
So Cardiff almost hosts a collection of broken R.E.M. microphone stands. :D

I mentioned to a number of people at work where I had been last night, mainly as I couldn't stop yawning - everyone of them said they wish they had known REM were playing as they would love to see them live. Whoever did the publicity for this tour and album wants shooting.

Glad you managed to get it home safely! Wish I was going to Twickenham and Southampton now! Nice to have met you, I'm sure our paths will cross again next tour. :)

what a night, I didn't get in the arena until the Editors were on but still had a cracking view, by the start R.E.M. encores I somehow ended up 3 rows from the front!! (sorry to all those of you who waited in line for hours, I'm to old to do that now)
What a setlist, one of the best I have heard for a long time. Disturbance at the Heron House and Pilgrimage were the highlights for me.
