I expect the organizer justify it to themselves by thinking that some bands don't come here so often - so if we double the price - fans will still be prepared to pay it. It's bending the rules of Demand and supply a bit!

I've considered R.E.M. ticket prices (and concert ticket prices) ways too high for a long time. The ticket prices of 60 Euros here in Munich have already prevented me from getting one, but this is really over the top.
It's ridiculous!
I'd like to know how much of a say the band has in this!

For me, REM's tickets are quite well priced. When The Police were here last year, a ticket comparable to my REM seat would have been Cdn$200. My REM seats were Cdn$85. Of course, both prices are before all the bloody charges they put on top. Although, the NIN show that I just missed, the seats were Cdn$70.
Decided to come back. Used to be known as Lynda J.

We all know The Police were a rip off - and I think in over more than a year, they only played 30 different songs at the most (compared with the 70+ REM have already played in 2 months!)

Agreed, and that's why I didn't go.

I wish I hadn't bothered! Maybe if I hadn't been spoilt by R.E.M. - it wouldn't have seemed so bad!

The fact that people are justifying it by making comparisons with The Police, Madonna and the Rolling Stones, says a lot really.
When I say I don't understand this band anymore...I mean that I think my idea of REM is for something that goes a bit beyond just the music and that the reality of present day REM doesn't really fit with that idea anymore. Maybe it's just nostalgia, or maybe I was a bit deluded from the start, and they are more ruthless when it comes to business than I realised.
The point I made is about a comparing ticket prices based on the cost of living in Mexico..ie: what the average wage earner needs to spend for a fan club ticket, compared with other countries.....that fanclub price is a disgrace. My maths is lousy but I reckon it would be like REM charging in excess of 300-350$ in australia. I also think that the promoters are to blame is bollocks..we are talking about fan club seats here....how many members of the REM fanclub would be in Mexico? It wouldn't kill 'em to make a few seats available at a reasonable cost to those fans.

Fanclub seats have never been cheaper though - they just get the "best" seats available (not always the same as best seats), or early entry to the venue.

yeah, I know, but premium seats have never been that excessively expensive either.
to get some perspective on this...the minimum wage in Mexico about 50 pesos a DAY.....that is less than half the Australian minimum wage for ONE HOUR. [aussie minimum hourly wage is @ $13.00 or 117 mex peso]
The average worker in Mexico is paid 23 australian dollars a day. which is 10 times less than the average Austalian worker...so my maths was waaaaay out...if you were to charge a comparable amount for a fan club ticket based on AVERAGE not [minimum] wage..the cost for a fan club ticket in Australia would be $1430.
I'm sorry, but I think REM should be pretty fucking embarrassed charging fans that kind of money. Maybe Michael Stipe might wanna consider that the next time he's taking the piss out of the the non-fan in the front row who looks miserable. You know how he paraphrased John Lennon with that "rattle jewelry seats" line....I think this just stinks of hypocrisy.

the people who is going to attend the comcert at Mexico City earn too much that the minimum wage, in this country the diferencies with the salaries among the workers are significative. I Live in Monterrey 1000 kms from mexico city and I have enough time time to be ready to save money to paid the plane, hotel, and concerts tickets bye the way I have 3 7th row tickets. and if the band come here to Monterrey we are going to have to save more money to attend to the show... god bless the credit cards

I would defenitely love REM fanclub to sell the tickets cheaper. But it is not all about that, and it does not depend entirely on the Fanclub. I think if the decision was upon the guys, They will give up away those tickets for free.
Concerts are a very expensive here on Mexico, and that based on a every day basis. I think Madonna tickets are the most expensive tickets I have bought (aprox 900 usd for two).
Anyway, I have tickets in first row for the Mexico City concert, the last concert was in 2nd row. I don't regret getting those tickets!
