Personally, i'm disappointed. I don't think MS sounds on top form, and the songs aren't overly tight.

I don't think any of you "anti-lossey" r.e.m. fans out there are missing anything integeral to your r.e.m. collections. My 2-pence.
the future is ours and you don't even rate a footnote. now.

Its good. I was expecting the sound to be a bit better though. The person above me thinks michael doesn't sound in top form. I think he sounds great, especially on fall on me. The band doesn't seem tight though...maybe it's just the mix???

Anyway,  I'd suggest waiting for the torrent to pop up

This live release is far more enjoyable than 'R.E.M. Live' in my opinion.

I agree. I'm just so happy they are throwing in old tunes..i.e. west of the fields and auctoneer.

I cant explain how great it is to hear this mixed in with the new...if only they would throw in something from up other than walk unafraid

Does anyone else think the whole mix could use a little more bottom end?  A bit less of Scott too on Fall On Me.  The whole thing isn't great but I much rather have it be available than not.

Yes, me. Where is Mike? His bass? His voice? I hear Scott more than him...

I can barely hear Mike, Scott is all over the place. Scott's voice is quite original and you can like it or not, but we're fan of R.E.M., not YFF's

I only guessing here, but I would assume that this can be due to the slight "out-of-tune" problems that Mike has suffered from during the last few years. Scott tends to be a bit more in tune. When you're present at a live shows you don't really notice, and the same goes for audience recordings. For albums it can always be fixed, but for soundboard live recordings you can't really do much about it.

I dont agree. It is just another crap producing&mixing issue. Have no idea why they let release smth like this! Especially Buck - I can't believe it does not piss him off. He probably would be if it related to his fav band!

Maybe you're right about the technical issue, but if I want to listen to R.E.M., it's their members I want to listen to, not the side musicians. (Even if they're good as Scott and Ken are)

Well, shall we just say that Mike has had some problems staying in tune for backing vocals and whatnot over the last few years. As your voice changes over the years, while the keys the guys play the songs in don't, it's a pretty logical problem. There have been some live recordings that have sounded a bit so-so, and Yellow River and some other recent covers (x-mas ones primarily) displayed pretty clear signs of him sounding very strained on more high-pitch vocals. It's not really a problem when you see a live show in, um...live form, but it can be heard on recordings.

The bass line on Living Well is a little lost, especially without headphones, and that's an awesome bassline so that's a little sad. It's not as lost as I thought it was on first listen though. And agree, Scott's real present vocally on Horse to Water. It's a fun listen though, a little surprising that they're already releasing live versions of songs on an album that hasn't been out long, but cool of them. I like.
