I fell in love with this Glaswegian 3 piece with their debut album, Costello Music. They're loud, brash and  geniuses  with the anthemic chorus combined with intriguing skewed lyrics. So I was really looking forward to the new one, Here We Stand.
Overall, it's not a big departure from Costello Music, but that's not a bad thing. These are 3 young guys who  make a beautiful racket. Musically they're tighter than an ant's rectum. Make no mistake, these blokes are impressively accomplished musicians. I think they're  brothers.
The album kicks off with My Friend John and it is immediately apparent this band are getting their rock cocks on and loving it. Hooks galore, and glorious soaring harmonies. From the spoken intro "if you were a shape, what shape would you be?" you can tell this is gonna be fun.
A Heady Tale follows, music hall piano and bolshy words. It just grooves along like a well lubed pub  anthem in the hands of the best pub anthem band in the world.
Fuzz guitar starts Shameless off. It's a tale of  lost love , I think. Part of this band's charm is the quirkiness of their lyrics.
Look Out Sunshine  is a typical Fratellis saunter down vaudeville road. It's fun and perfect for singing along to in the car with the windows down.
Next we lower  it a gear for Straggler's Moon. Awesome vocal harmonies, and a nod to  the 60's with psychedelic wailing guitars .
Mistress Mabel is the first single. If you haven't heard it, it's catchy as hell, and a showcase for their machine gun riffs and manic energy. Earworm. These guys can fucking play.
I can tell the Fratellis listened to the Kinks a lot from Jesus Stole My Baby. A wry look at religion and love, very much in the style of Ray Davies. I love Ray Davies and the Kinks so it's all good. There is some twonky guitar noodling at the end.
Baby Doll starts out deceptively folky. It's just a rollicking great guitar  tune and the Fratelli magic vocal harmonies get another outing.
Tell Me A Lie is a metalesque pastiche, married with a very fast jig. Excellent.
Acid Jazz Singer and Lupe brown are Fratellis by numbers. Could have been left off the album. They sound like they might have been  out-takes from Costello Music. Maybe they are.
The album closes with Milk and Money. this starts out slow with a piano and world weary lyrical delivery. Kinda dreamy and sweet, but always with a touch of irony. Trademark Fratelli fucking with time signatures and instruments make for a great album closer.
What i love most about this band is their energy. They always sound like they're loving every second of every song. And they make me get up and dance like a mentalist. Can't say that for a lot of bands lately. If you like Costello Music, you'll like this. Perfect summer album  ****

That quote made my day, haha! Haven't check out the new album yet, but I really liked the first one. They are indeed accomplished at their craft (not accomplished as in "paid their dues" but i just mean they don't sound the least bit sloppy). This is a band that knows what it's doing.
Buddha was a fat hillbilly who ate dead cats. If I wanted that to be taught to me I'd just move to Alabama.

Yes I bought the album today,so Ive got both now. It seriously kicks ass.

I love milk and money, acid singer, babybelle, and the forthcoming single Hello sunshine will be big. How they're gonna get away with the lyrics '' Im a cynical old cunt '' though I dont know.

Out of the 11 I seriously like 7 and like the other 4. To me that is one hell of an album. Usually I only really like 3 or 4 and put up with the rest.

N,B. The titles may not be correct.

Spamming! His posts are all the same.

Back to the thread topic, I like the new Fratellis record. It is what it is, not the most profound record but it is fun to listen to and not concentrate on too much. It's not claiming to be anything it's not either.

"Of course you liked early R.E.M. best," I want to say. "You were 17 years old and drunk on tequila and in love with a girl who didn't know you existed, and 'Harborcoat' summed up your melancholy mood like it was written just for you."
