There's adverts in the national papers for the UK dates, plenty for sale on Ebay at cost price too.
I blame a weak lead single which did nothing here. I dont think hollow man will do much better either. I think they would have done far better with Living well as the lead single followed by submarine.

You can apply for a position at WMI at their offices on Kensington Court. Good luck!

"Hollow Man" has taken a big nose drive worldwide--as predicted. What is it, bubbling under the Top 300 worldwide or something? "Man-Sized Wreath" BRING IT ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm banking on "Man-Sized Wreath". I wish they would have lead with "Man-Sized Wreath" (vs. "S. S."), and I still think a single of "Horse To Water/I'm Gonna DJ" would totally blow the face off alternative rock stations worldwide, but nobody's asking me..............

Pretty hard to take a nose dive when you're starting from ground zero to begin with. REM have never really been a singles band, "LMR" and "Shiny Happy People" aside. Let's just enjoy the cool tracks on Accelerate, the live shows (if you live in the right part of the world) and let it be, as the great men said.

Wow guys, don't put your R.E.M. tics on E-Bay. You'll be sorry you didn't go to the show. Atlanta's set list was Hot! They did some from the new CD and many old favorites.:)

You know what it is? I think it's people who remember REM and like them, but maybe haven't been to REM gigs before (or maybe they have), and they buy the ticket(s) and then can't find anyone to go with. This occurs because all the kids these days raised on a diet of fucking junk tripe on the radio stations, where everything is about SEX SEX SEX (get a grip!), and you've got people who work in record stores who haven't even heard of REM.
[Rant ends].
That's why you might find a few tickets on e-bay. Ask the people who actually bother to show up, and you'll find they had a pretty cool night. :D

Oh, I don't know if I can agree with REM not being a singles band.....they had quite a few 45rpm hits in the U.S. of Fucking A. that I can remember, i.e. "Superman", "The One I Love", "Orange Crush", ...others.....

It is curious where they've chosen to play, almost seems like a rush job for the UK anyway.Perhaps they just prefer Europe.
I thought Perfect square was excellent, infact Ive worn out one dvd and had to buy another.I was at the warm up show to that at Manchester where it was just as good.I think they like the cricket ground at Manchester. Ipswich was ok but the crowd were appalling. Hyde park seemed to have a lot of non REM fans there out on the piss for the day and the gold circle was policed too well, it seemed to me the fans in it were'nt making the most of it.
Twickenham is a strange choice of venue, I think.

I agree, as I have said in an earlier post, compared to some of the venues on mainland Europe - bull rings, medieval town squares, Roman arenas, we get....a couple of cricket grounds and a couple of football/rugby stadiums. Now I know we are not over-run with bull rings in this country (Birmingham aside, ha ha!) but a little imagination please? I am off to Victoria Park tomorrow to see Radiohead, I always liked Finsbury Park as a venue, Neil Young has found an old Hop Farm to play at in a couple of weeks time. Or failing that, a couple of nights at Earls Court. On a positive note (I can hear the cheers from the other side of the world) I think Old Trafford is a decent venue, having seen REM and the Cure there in the last few years.
As for the choice of singles, for sure different people will have differing opinions, but a straw poll of 4-5 friends confirm 'Man Size Wreath' as the favourite for a single release. Anyway, who buys singles these days, is all that new-fangled digital stuff...pass my pills nurse!

Your suggestions make better marketing sense..to me at least. I had to check that Hollow Man was even a single release -such an uninspired choice (though it is a 'grower') FM-radio needs instantly-gratifying songs to get an audience -as such HM didn't remotely fit the bill.
If they're not selling tickets here it's because they're playing at totally non-music venues like Twickenham - a fricking rugby union ground for crissakes.

This is funny , are you serious.
Let me be really clear. I am a long term fan who has been to countless REM concerts and plan to go to loads more. Not only that ,I encourage people to come with me. My party at Hyde park was 15. I paid for my 2 sons and me to go to RAH where I was disappointed with the length of set and MS's statuesque performance. The clips from the first American concerts were the same prompting my post. if they continue like that through Twickenham I will call it a day.
Even so I have a party of 4 going to Southampton, 6 for Twickers. I've paid for the tickets up front and my friends can pay me back whenever. I'm going to T in the park and Dublin on my own.Manchester I will go with a girlfriend.
Since then MS has picked up the performance, which Ive already said.
I can assure you I am not miserable or negative and your assertation that if people think you are you must be is rubbish, especially in the context of an internet forum.
So my friend unless you are some sought of wizz kid internet psycologist, your way off the mark. I have fanatically supported REM for years and spent thousands on live trips. Look at it this way,my standards are very high because they instilled that into me, so when I see stuff like RAH and MS glued to the spot throughout the entire concert, I remember better days and know what he/them can do.
The big worry for me was that they had lost interest and were just going through the motions. I can forgive RAH but please no one tell me it was a promo concert or that they were just warming up. I think they would agree thats not good enough and if your gonna have short warm up gigs do them for free as they did at i tunes.
Somtheing was wrong at RAH, I dont know what. Anyway it looks as if its been put right now.

If thats the case, then stop being a typical whinging pommy bastard.
Cant play Cricket, cant play Football, lost an Empire, your weathers shitful and youve had the sads since the Beatles collapsed and havent had a decent band since.
Move to Spain or somewhere, maybe some sun on ya hairy white arse might cheer you up.
If you want ticket sales to improve, shout some more of ya so called mates to this gig. However, I imagine after spending the day at Hyde Park with you, putting up with your moaning and whining all day long, complaining about everything from the sound to the colour of the leaves on the trees, youd be on youre pat.

Half your posts seem to make some reference to how you don't like the English. Granted, the original poster is being a bit negative here, but maybe you'd be best off removing the massive chip from your shoulder and trying not to live up to all the worst stereotypes about your own country.

Anyway at least we'll see them this year.I'm not surprised they dare not venture to a third world country.
The Abo's had it right mate, kick all the aussie invaders out. Then we'd have to find another Island for you. Antartica 's looking pretty good. The penguins wouldnt be happy though. The minute they complained about a lack of fish you'd have some ''easy going'' ( lol fucking lol lol lol) dyed blonde hair, aussie layabout shouting shut up moaning yer disabled black and white pigeon.

There's nothing wrong with being honest, and we are just being honest in return about disagreeing and saying some people just like to be pernickity.
Oh, I'm a New Zealander, and I tend to agree with Mick about the English tendency to have a good old whinge, we're seeing it on display here. :D

R.E.M. was not a complete sellout at MSG. There were still tickets available on Ticketmaster after the show had been announced as a sellout. There were many people just trying to get rid of their tickets at the last minute before the show. Even scalpers were selling below cost.
The Jones Beach show was no different. I was waiting for someone by the Will Call entrance and watched a scalper for 45 minutes. He wasn't able to sell even one ticket, although he must have asked what seemed like 200 people.
The ticket prices and economy in the U.S. are going in opposite directions. I don't know the situation in the UK, but imagine there will be lots of seats left even hours before the show. For example, who wants to $80 for nosebleed seats in the Garden?

What was all this on Billboard about renewed interest in seeing REM live, then?
Really, I don't see the big problem if there's some spare seats. I don't guage my reaction to a concert about how many people are there anyway; as long as it's not deserted with no vibe, then I don't really care. Sounds as though they got reasonable numbers at their US gigs, about as many as they could have hoped for I suppose.
The show not being a sell-out is actually good news for those who decide to rock up at the last minute.
