Hi everyone.. for me is On The Fly the deepest song they created during recording last two albums...i am so proud about the band when i hear it, i have feel that is something more than a music it has  asomething special that you can say by the words .you have to play that song to describe it..it has somethin gspecial (Mr. Buck sad that its the best thing they record last years)

and ofcourse that i understand why it didint fit the Accelerate. But iam afraid that it will never be on the album or on the singel. If it tooks another three years to record another album...it could happen everything..i would be very gald if someone like Ethan could ask the band. thank you

yes Ethan, please tell the band if possible.

I believe it should be a studio version from Pat Mcarthy (ATS)
and of course also a studio version from Jacknife Lee (Accelerate)

I'm deeply interested on the one of Jacknife Lee because he made and incredible work with songs such as Houston, Sing for the Submarine, and Until the Day is Done. (none of this are my favorites on the album though), but those slow/mid-tempo songs have great production.

from the ATS sessions we already get I'm Gonna DJ and Magnetic North,   but we are missing "On the Fly", apparently the guys liked it, perhaps it haven't fit on the last two albums, and personally I do not think it will fit in the following because it seems the band is "on the move".

I think we should get it as a b-side of a single,  or perhaps on the B-sides of the following R.E.M. compilation that it may be out on 2010 (30 years as a band) if they do not have a new album by that date.

bottom line:  ETHAN , please tell the guys the fans wants to hear on the fly!..

thanks

Perhaps it should be released as a double A-side single in between now and the next album, sort of like how Strawberry Fields/Penny Lane were released.

Cant disagree more... On The Fly is rife with the indulgences that bogged down ATS. REM were right to discard it from the album.

Here's what I was told by one of the guys in the band: "On The Fly" just "didn't go anywhere, so we dumped it." That's a quote. It sounds to me like it didn't get finished, either with Jackknife or Pat.  I was told that there is a finished version of "Staring Down the Barrel" but that it got cut from the tracklisting [of Accelerate] at the last minute, but that, "...it's too good of a song not to show up somewhere, sometime.  Maybe on a soundtrack or as a b-side or something.  It'll show up eventually. It's too good."
