You enjoy Peter looking bored doing something he clearly hates? Or in most cases videos that make the public think that REM is just Stipe.
I think the video is fantastic, One of the very rare occasions that the video is fitting or if not better than the song. If SS had a video as cool as this it would have been played alot lot more.

let's be honest, it's a pretty bad video. Not quite as bad as aftermath .. but close.
any video that has the entire lyrics on screen is a bit obvious and uninspired.
forgettable.

Fantastic video! I like it very much. More than the SNSS video.
I don't mind the lyrics being shown the whole time because there is so much going on. Makes you wanna watch it again to find other things in the background.
This one fits the song very well. Great job Crush! :)

Even if the band is not to be seen and if you don't listen to the music while watching, you would certainly recognize it as an R.E.M.-video! It's just R.E.M. and it's cool.

R.E.M. to Premiere Video for "Hollow Man" -- the Second Single From Band's New Album "Accelerate" -- Exclusively on MySpace at Noon PDT on April 23rd
BURBANK, CA--(Marketwire - April 23, 2008) - "Hollow Man," the second single from R.E.M.'s new album "Accelerate," will premiere exclusively on MySpace TV at noon PDT on Wednesday, April 23rd. Its prominent placement on various pages throughout the social-networking website ensures that millions of people will be able to view the video as soon as it goes live.
The video for "Hollow Man" was created by Crush Inc. -- a cutting edge graphic-design and production studio based in Toronto. "We loved what Michael Stipe said about the meaning behind the lyrics of 'Hollow Man,'" says Gary Thomas, Crush's founding partner and creative director. "We all fear losing who we are, so we wanted to build on the idea of isolation as our theme. In terms of style, we took a page from Michael's approach to writing and recording the new record, so a modern approach to the 'punk' aesthetic was used. Consequently, our devices emerged and the 'Hollow Man' became three people: a digital avatar, a roughly drawn representation, and live action."
R.E.M. performed "Hollow Man" on "The Today Show" on April 1st, the day "Accelerate" was released. The album topped the Alternative, Rock, Digital, and Internet (physical goods) charts in the U.S. its first week, and debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard Top 200 chart -- R.E.M.'s highest first-week chart position since the No. 2 debut of 1996's "New Adventures in Hi-Fi." The band also topped the AAA Radio chart with "Supernatural Superserious," the lead-off single from "Accelerate."
Recorded in Vancouver, Dublin, and Athens, GA, last spring with Grammy Award-winning producer Jacknife Lee, "Accelerate" has been called "a classic blast of rock and roll from a band at a new peak of its powers" by Rolling Stone, "a breathless tumble of hooks and harmonies" by the New York Times, and proof that "amplified, guitar-based songs can bring people together and even form the basis for a larger life," by the Los Angeles Times.
R.E.M. will tour North America in May and June with opening acts Modest Mouse and The National before launching an extensive European tour in July. Please visit www.remhq.com for all the latest news about the band.

It all feels slightly sad, like those long stretches of dead-mill brickshells encrusting the Amtrak line in Virginia, the overgrown ruins of old factories so plaintive that it just makes you want to move to Athens, Georgia and start a band.

After a first watch, I think the video is a little odd but definitely not completely out of the norm of R.E.M. style. It reminds me of several of their past videos but also a fresh new style too. I think it will grow on me the more and more I watch it.

I think it's definitely a R.E.M. video.
I began listening to R.E.M. in the 80's when they were pushing the boundaries of alternative rock and music videos (MTV was emptyV, remember?)
In my opinion the video express very well the song meaning and is very cool.
I dont'care if R.E.M. are not in the video.
For those who don't like it: they are R.E.M. and this is what they do!

I saw it once, my computer is running slow and I want to watch it again.
The video is chaotic. One can get lost in chaos. I really like how it fits in with that theme of Accelerate.

I think it's great! All that stuff going on certainly fits in with the "overwhelmed, on repeat" feeling that the song conveys. Very cool. :)

so the video for fall on me is obvious, uninspired, and forgettable? really? you're actually saying that? i think both this video and fall on me are fantastic. finally r.e.m. is doing something different. can't please em all though.

I don't like it.
this is nothing like the aftermath video. aftermath was an awful video with horrible production values and the guys in pajamas. this is a fantastic video with amazing visuals. so of the moment. it's amazing. nothing at all like aftermath.

So the video is out, but still no word on the single release date or (more importantly) b-sides?

Okay I'm a huge REM fan, and I've loved their vids in the past, but this one is terrible. In fact, I couldn't even finish it. The flower-power colors were annoying, and what is with the lyrics rolling accross the screen? I want to listen to music, not read it! Hopefully this won't hurt the single too bad.

what's the difference now if they make videos or not... they doesn't get any tv airplay at all...
the last one they played on mtv, vh1, etc.. when it was released was:
the great beyond (played almost daily on main video channels)
imitation of life just a coupla times..
all the way to reno (never)
bad day (never)
animal (never)
leaving new york (never)
aftermath (good they never passed it)
electron blue (never)
wanderlust (there was not even a video).
today it is the youtube generation and anyone can make its own video as it wants it,
but bands like U2, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Morrissey, even The Rolling Stones still get LOTS OF airplay on MTV & Vh1... people still do watch or search for videos on this channels, why do REM doesn't any more?

but they had the same effect on fall on me and many consider that video to be a highlight of theirs. george michael did on his first single from his 1990 album and it was highly effective as well. i really don't get the complaint about the lyric thing.

Could someone with the power to do so put this up on youtube on the main page when you search REM? The earlier the better. :)
