Just had a look at the UK Itunes store and Accelerate is numbers 1 and 2 in the charts! Really quite good! Has anyone else found anything on mid-week chart performance?

Question for geeky people: I'm a little confused as I doubt people are downloading whole versions of both the albums....are they? If they're not, what proportion of the album needs to be downloaded in order for it to be counted as an 'album sale?'

I read on teletext last night that Accelerate is a certain UK number 1 because it's selling twice as many as duffy at number 2.

Went to Number one on iTunes Australia today.

Anyone know what Around the Sun did?  I'm really glad it looks like it will debut at number 1 - it fully deserves to, and will give the guys some heart that they've done the right thing with this album.  :):)

It doesn't give european chart positions, where the album sold most of it's copies

In fact the album sold 2 million (ish) of which only 300,000 were in the US, so that shows that US chart placings are irrelevant when around the sun is concerned.

They usually do, although i've heard that the special edition (cardboard sleeve) version would be set to go to number one all by itself.

Yep, it traded the #1 spot on Amazon last weekend back and forth with Counting Crows, but since Sunday, it has stayed at #1 every time I checked.

It has held the #1 spot on itunes since early afternoon yesterday as far as I could see as well.  However, George Strait is creeping up, and well, Moby too.

Both versions of the REM album are number 1 and 2 respectively on the Irish Chart.

I just found this....if the B-52's almost made the top 10 after being absent with new material since 1992, then things look very good for Accelerate.

The B-52's Funplex just misses the top 10, opening at #11. This is the party-minded group's best showing since Cosmic Thing reached #4 in March 1990 and spawned two #3 hits on the Hot 100, "Love Shack" and "Roam." Of course, this is only the group's second studio album since Cosmic Thing. Good Stuff went top 20 in 1992

r.e.m. should place pretty high on the charts next week. the only real competition they have is george straight. moby isn't even in the running. i'm sure moby will have a nice charting, but moby's days of big success here in the states has waned considerably over the years.

Van Morrison is surprisingly number 2 in the overall music category.
Some kind of singing. They sound like all kinds of people, right? And then it says another child is born in India every time you call this number, right? Does that make any sense to you?
And the guy that spoke--I don't know who he is. But that--it doesn't sound like no answering machine, right?

Who is this George Strait guy anyway? Sounds like a cowboy or something?

If he is, i guess REM have no chance! You Americans lap that stuff right up.

He's a country musician and I'm sure that there are a lot of George Bush votes blasting that record right now.
