GET OVER IT!

There are folks going to shows that are far further than you guys in the UK. Including one fellow who is coming to Toronto from Texas!

Well, perhaps you should have read more of the posts - I'm travelling to Amsterdam, Italy, Norway and Sweden rather than travelling about an hour or so up the road to see them at T in the Park; it isn't a question of the travel, it's the venue a lot of us are objecting to.  Feel free to lead by example and make the journey here to see them - if you would have died to see the rehearsals why didn't you get on a plane to Dublin? :)

I haven't read the entire thread, but have read a lot of it, just be happy you are getting a far longer tour than those of us in North America are.

There are folks going to shows that are far further than you guys in the UK. Including one fellow who is coming to Toronto from Texas!

As for you guys in Ireland, you had the five rehearsals last summer which those of us in North America would have died to see.

That's my rant and I'm sorry if I've offended anybody, but it was driving me nuts.

Yeah cause I've never seen REM outside of Scotland ever.  If you were so keen to see the Dublin shows you should have joined quite a few of your north americans at the show.

The argument is we cant figure why they arent coming to a strong loyal rem part of the world.  In Canada and most of the states REM are dead in the water,  it figures that they wouldnt spend any time there.

Is anyone from outside of Scotland going to T in the Park? So far I haven't heard of anyone, and the only Scottish people I know going are those who unfortunately can't manage to travel to other shows. And 70,000 kids who wouldn't recognise REM if they passed them on the way there.

In 2003 quite a few people here travelled from outside Scotland to see the show. The ones I've spoken to would rather see the band elsewhere this time around. Even Michael has stated they'd a bad time with the sound back then. So I guess it's just a bit confusing as well as disappointing that this is the only show when there are a lot of REM fans here.

And I think the situation is pretty much the same with Oeygen.

Yeh but it will be over the odds – try a site called Scarlet Mist - just Google it – they buy and sell tickets back at face value for T every year

Thanks Su :)
I'm really wondering if I can get on the actual day of the show at a sensible price--ie from a tout, or just someone with a spare. Are there usually people around? :(
I was thinking of making a last-minute decision on the day-depending on Berlin plans, work, Rod's mood about it! What a luxury though to be able to do that, no flights or rail strikes to worry about!

Well yeh there will be touts for sure but T is getting like Glastenburry and trying to get rid of them for good Sheila and I know last year tickets had names on and they were asking for ID and expecting you to know this persons address (the person on the tickets) im so sure touts have a way around this though   – plus there was security everywhere.  That said yeh you would get one on the day for sure I would think and like I said touts will have a way around this – its spot checks but it’s a risk

P.S i remember Michael saying this about the sound - its no better still the Killers were complaining about it last year and Green day too a couple of years ago - they really stuggle with the sound on the main stage at Ballado

Oh yeh and IV never travelled anywhere outside of Scotland to see REM – I think I speak for all my fellow Celts when I say we have spent our own weight in money over the years to see REM cos we have had too. Those people traveling far - they include most of us.  Scotland has real reason to complain here - we have been dealt a shitty hand over the years – countless gigs cancelled in Glasgow (through no fault of the bands I totally recognize) and either not rescheduled or us being re-located to massive stadiums we did not want in the first place (though they did reschedual on the ATS tour i know) - on the greatest hits tour we also only got T in the park which, as Sheila rightly points out they stated publicly they did no like so why they are playing it again confuses most of us – it smacks slightly off – oh we cant be arsed setting anything up there this will just do.  Please recognize that tickets for T are £80 for a day – we are therefore paying double anyone else in the UK is for possibly the worst gig. No presale and the tickets largely sold out even before they announced it thus not really giving us a chance anyway.   There were other options but REM chose not to explore them – that’s slightly disappointing

Of course I recognize we sound like winging Scottish and Irish people but we do really feel we have good reason – we feel short changed but like I said – I will attempt to get tickets cos its all there is on offer

Don’t come on here and tell us to “get over it “(IN CAPITALS) just don’t read it if you’re that bored with it but don’t insult us

That's a helluva lot of money, Neecy. It'd prob be cheaper to fly into London and catch the guys at Twickenham or even Manchester, I'd try that before committing to oxegen....

Yea i've already got a ticket for Southampton and everything's booked but i still really wanna see them at oxegen. How greedy does that sound? But its getting to me that so many of my... peers, i think that's the best way of putting it, have tickets and keep talking about it and not one of them want to see R.E.M.! Plus getting a ticket to see R.E.M. at oxegen would be the best 18th present!

I just didn't think that the day tickets would sell out so fast and now i can't find any for under 180quid - it's crazy.

Ah right, cool, hope you enjoy both if you get a ticket to oxegen. Maybe you can convert your friends to the REM way. The line-up is stellar for the whole festival though but still I couldn't see myself going there, really......

That is crazy, nearly three times the face-value if my conversion is right, crrrrrazzzzy indeed.

Converting my friends to R.E.M. is like my mission in life :p i just don't want them missing out!

Yea it is like 3 times the face value - its just unreal and i don't want to risk paying that... i'm going to wait and look around alot more. But if i'm going to pay that much money then i'll probably just get the 4 day ticket because they seem to be selling for 200-250quid so it would be worth the extra. But i'll keep looking before i do anything.

And that’s really the problem for Scotland and Ireland right there isn’t it cos it’s the same with T in the park – tickets have all gone so now your dealing in touts - REM wont even be playng in fornt of their real fans

Good for you, you weirdo....

Yeah, good thinking, batman. There's a paper in the south called 'Buy and Sell', give that a try, I remember seeing tickets in there last year, and prices weren't too bad as far as I remember anyway. Hope you get one anyway, dudette...

Money talks.

I also know for a fact they hated the loch Lomond show (anyone who was there will know why) and they can expect it to be ten times worse at titp.  I also know they love playing the small scottish shows.   The Glasgow Green and Stirling shows were the highlights of those particular tours for some of the guys.

I made it to the front for REMs 2003 titp show.   I had to watch 5 other bands to get there fortunately two of them were Idlewild and The Flaming Lips.  Once I did I was surrounded by people who were only there to wave at the camera and wave Scotland flags.  That bit I will NEVER understand.    Two fights broke out beside me.   An rem fan who had been at the front all day and had came up from Plymouth for the day was attacked because some fat female ned wanted her spot so started clawing into her back so badly she decided to leave the show in a flood of tears,   I got smacked in the back of the head by a quarter bottle of vodka, fortunately my rather big skull saved me from any serious injuries apart from a cut and a lovely big bump in my head for a week,

Now are you sure it was vodka?:p Having had the same occurence, only with a tin in the back of my head, I'm still trying to convince myself that what spilt all down my back was beer.:(
