So... has anyone been there?  I never have.  Does anyone know if there are standing tickets or if they're all seats which are the best seats (given that you can't always judge these things by the most expensive being the best)
OK, so info, anyone?

Think it's all seating! Did you realize it's Easter Monday? You can probably drive there, not sure how it'll be for us to travel from out in the sticks:rolleyes:

Yes, I've been there. It's usually seated, other than at the proms. The best seats will be bloody expensive (side boxes and front stalls), I bet. Looks like the UK will get the beginning of August - when I'm away!!! Hey ho. Got to say, I'm disappointed. If the best seats are stupidly priced (anything above the normal £35-45, then I'll give the albert hall a miss and catch them later in the year. If I do a 7 or 10 day cruise at the beginning of August, I should have a 2 week slot in the middle before I go away again.

Have to say, I hope they do Wales and Scotland in that time . I want to climb Snowdon this year and take my baby to Perthshire to show him some conservation work I did 20 years ago! It would be most accommodating is I could tack these trips on to a show. (I must be going to die soon!!!)

Where the hell did Spain go?  Are there no R.E.M. fans in Spain?  I'm in Spain the last week in August, from the 22nd in fact!  (of course they may well be the UK dates!!!)

I cant help being slightly disappointed. Three years ago it was Hammersmith Odeon and managed to get VIP tickets and get right to the front.

Five years ago it was three nights at Brixton Academy which was out of this world!!

Albert Hall....poor acoustics and bloody seats.....yuk!!

mate, they haven't even announced the UK dates yet.  don't worry you'll get more than the Rah show.

full orchestra's, choirs and the like, seem to manage with the 'poor acoustics', and as sampled in the US - all seater venues actually promote getting up and dancing, rather than clinging for dear life to a barrier at the front.

Believe me the acoustics are crap unless you are sitting up in the gods which is hardly fun. Any venue with a roof that high...where do you think the sound goes??

As for the seats....last time I went there was to see The Stranglers and most of the seats ended up in a big pile at the side....now that would be fun again!

I'm actually postponing my flight to Germany to see them in the RAH. I think it's a beautiful venue, not sure about the sound. Don't mind being seated, at least you don't have to queue for hours.

Will try to get the best tickets available thru the pre-sale tomorrow. Very excited! I mean we waited so long, so I don't want to miss it now,

And then they're playing Loreley in Germany in August, which is not far from where I'm actually from. Love their choice of venues! Now just hoping for Madison Square Garden in N.Y.!!

The Royal Albert Hall is a spanking venue. The sound is good in patches but compared to some places it's just fine. You can have tea in the park before the gig. Very civilised.

Admittedly I haven't been to a gig at the Albert Hall in a long time, but the three times I have been there for gigs (Gene, Belle and Sebastian and the Manics) the floor was standing rather than seats.  So there might be some hope for standing tickets unless they have completely stopped doing that in recent years.

Personally I welcome a bit of a sit down. You can always stand up for the gig but seats give you a rest while you wait and somewhere to park your belongings.

The view form the side stalls is excellent.
