So I'm a bit behind and have only just discovered this lusciousness which is House.  I'm catching up as quickly as possible - 2 hours worth of old eps on Monday and the new one last night.  I think I love this show.  Last night was really really good.

Last night was really really good.

dont know how much of the humor is still in our german version comparing to the orginal,

I think there's not difference between the original one and the House we watch in other countries.
I've read lots of quote from the American one, and compared to the Italian, words and humor Are the same.;)

A suggestion: go to youtube and type Dr. House. There are lots of great videos (now I'm at work and I can't search for the links)... search the "Behind blu eyes" one.... lovers of Hugh will adore it;)

now i'm all fidgety about the third season, whenever it'll reach my telly. :D but... tonight i'll have a three episode feast, YAY! three hours of dysfunctional nummyness, what could a girl want more? btw - pop psychology bit. why is he so insanely sexy? because we all think we can save him. once he's found the right woman, i.e. you or me or whichever other girl drools over him on a regular basis, he'll be all better and a very happy man. weird, why are we so silly as a gender? or is that just me?

No, really, I learned years ago that men cannot be changed, much less saved.  It's something young women have to learn somehow, hopefully not through repeated failed attempts, but from watching others.

Oh, I agree. Last night was amazing! The disgusted/sad look on Wilson's face when he walked away and left House there on the floor... and at the end with House and Tritter... I also appreciated the way that House interacted with the mom with dwarfism.

Then they had the nerve to taunt me with scenes from the upcoming episode(s) and we won't get a new one until January 9th.

Come Monday, it'll be all right...

i know that, people can only save themselves. still, the character works on this wanting to anyway instinct in a big way anyway i think.

nan - that sounds fucking scary! let me guess, something to do with withdrawal?

Oh there's definitely some truth in your comment. I think we, as women, have the societal expectation to be caring and nurturing. I must admit that I'm not particularly warm and fuzzy, don't respond well to emotional blackmail (just ask my students!!!!) but I still have the compulsion to fix things, to make it all better, and maybe this is just a "teacher" thing but as those close to me are wont to say, I often to into "teacher mode" when something is going horribly wrong. I feel like I should take over and give directions and fix everything. It's not that I think I'm that much smarter or more competent than everyone else, I just feel it's my job to make everything better.

**SPOILER ALERT**

Yep, he'd been going through withdrawal for a couple days, got ahold of some drugs by misrepresenting a situation at the hospital pharmacy, then basically overdosed on the pills and alcohol. Wilson stopped by to check up on him and he was lying on the floor of his living room having had vomited on himself and the floor.

oh shit that's so sad! :( well, in real life things could go both ways i guess, either further down the spiral ending up in junkie hell or upwards, realising that the addiction has taken over and it's time to do something about it. as this is still tv, i'll be very interested to see how the latter option plays out.

Yes, I believe we are genetically programmed to try oi fix everything and make it all better.  We can knock our heads against brick walls for years in the attempt.

Well, at the very end, there was a scene where he went to take a deal a cop had offered (won't give too many details as to spoil it) so I think he's beginning to realize that it IS a problem. The scenes from the next episode(s) they showed at the end of last night's episode showed him in court.

Indeed we are. But, one thing my Dad always tells me is that when you are banging your head against a brick wall, sooner or later you should (hopefully) realize that the wall isn't going anywhere and you've got a headache... so now what are you going to do about it?

ah, that'll be interesting! it'll be probation under the condition of rehab i should think, looking very forward to that one (whenever i'll actually get to see it)

re the brick wall... yep! what then? take some ibuprofen and let the wall know you'll be there but ultimately it'll have to sort out its own problems i guess. easier said than done though. ;)

i don't usually reply to my own replies, but... i'm so developing a crush on the guy! *wistful look* the episode where he takes cameron out for dinner was on today, and, fucking hell, amazing or what! i still can't get over that radical departure in hugh laurie's acting, the way he has channelled his gifts for physical comedy and funny faces into that expressive subtlety, the glimpses of pain, warmth, kindness and deep vulnerability, the microsecond when you realise his guard has been shot down. the run up to the dinner date was interesting, the corsage for cameron, allowing his insecurity to show, wilson's protectiveness of him - and then the harsh reality of the actual date, making perfectly clear what he feels his position in the relationship is and letting cameron figure out her feelings. i think he's wrong, btw. i do think cameron wants to save him (big mistake, girl, don't even go there), but i don't think that's the only reason why she's interested in him. by acknowledging that of course house would leave himself open for more hurt, so i'll be interested to see how things continue between them. (i'm talking from a middle of series 1 perspective here of course - for all i know they could have got married, had a kid and got divorced in the mean time, though i doubt it) . damn, no more episodes before the new yeear, i swear i'll get withdrawal...

From the Tractor Bar discussion of the new episode:

In the corner: So do you "experts" think his final version of the personal story was true, or was he still lying?

Wendellg: It's hard to tell, as he does tend to lie quite a bit to get what he wants and to manipulate people, and he may have told yet another lie to help the girl. But somehow I do think it was true, at least in part. It would go a long way to explain some of his behaviors, especially like Astrid and I and others have pointed out, that House seems to act as if he doesn't deserve good things, he doesn't deserve to be healthy or loved. He keeps living out those punishments in his adult life because as hard as he tries, he's still not perfect, he makes mistakes, and when he does, he must pay for it.

Did you notice that in the previews for the next episode House was in a wheel chair?

Onearpeggiopete:   so how is the world's most attractive junkie getting on in his twelve step programme? i assume badly, but what do i know? how nice to know i've obviously been appointed as his personal pop psychologist now... shame "analyst to dr gregory house" is too long for a user status... i'm just watching the episode with the death row inmate right now, the guy's biography is a bit cliched, n'est-ce pas? i liked the little drinks party, though (and the ensuing hangover - hugh laurie has become somewhat more subtle as an actor. bertie wooster with a hangover looked like house on withdrawal)... and the good doctor delivered a nice potential sig quote "first we have to make him all better and then ship him back for the state to kill him. is it just me or is that weird?" it is indeed... (or is that just me?) and another is it just me - hasn't cameron been due a nervous breakdown for at least three months? with her savior complex she'll end up up going loopy, that's for sure. she gets far too involved with patients (and messed up bosses).

slinky1 - The House episode last night didn't deal too much with the addiction stuff. Cuddy made a few comments about owning him etc. I really focused on his interactions with a rape victim and used that as a route for him to tell some about his past.
