we miss your drumming energetic and tribal
but now you can read the TV guide nightly like preachers do with their bible
even with the unibrow you're still quite a good looking man
and now you have a very nice looking tan
we miss your songwriting and your spirit
but change is inevitable and we're glad you don't fear it
I hope you had a great birthday Mr Berry
from a big fan by the name of Mary.

Blame the insomnia!
Bill Poem No. 70 by Andrea.
What form do Bill's bales take?
When the time comes to make,
Them from the mown hay,
On a Georgian sunny day.
Massive ones that are round,
Are these the ones to be found?
Or ones that are oblongate,
Is that the hay's final fate?
Or does he go for something stranger,
For hay destined for a manger.
Does he build a working clock?
Now that would be a shock!

Told you the insomnia was bad!
Bill Poem No. 71 by Andrea.
Do you need scarecrows for hay?
Do you need to keep birds away?
Would you use an automated bang?
Surely not a welly wang!
No, a nice old scarecrow,
In the field, on show.
If it doesn't scare them away,
They can use him for shade.
And there's another use,
A safe night time roost.
For birds on Bill's farm,
Cannot come to any harm.

Gee, Andrea, it's hard to be sorry for your insomnia when it produces such great by-products. :o

I know I'm a few days early, but as I'm having to use a library computerI have to post when I can!
Bill Poem No. 71 by Andrea.
In England they are harvesting,
Cutting the grass for hay.
Are they doing so in Georgia?
As we approach Bill's 52nd birthday.
Will he spend the 31st,
Driving and a mowing?
Grafting throughout the day,
With neat lines a showing.
The mown grass spread out,
To dry under the burning sun.
Then gathered into many bales,
Or giant rolls; more than one.
Let us all wish Bill well,
As his birthday comes around.
And a long and healthy retirement,
Contentedly driving his tractor around.

Have you ever printed them all out and sent them to REM's fan club address? They would forward it to him, I bet.

Before my time I believe the BIll Poets had the then poems bound into a small book, a copy of which was forwarded via the fan club!

Remember Every Moment
Listen, there's music in the sky
Each star a remembered tune
Echoing from years gone by
Each night outshining the moon
I'll remember every melody
From Bill, each gallant beat
Which inspired ten years of poetry
And that is quite a feat
There's a symphony in each constellation
Each melody from afar
Each memory a consolation
So I’ll listen to every star
Each memory from years gone by
Is a soundtrack from years before;
The flicker fades to a fond goodbye
And I could not ask for more
