This small write up has appeared on Winnipeg Free Press following a movie review. I think it's ingenious!
BIG RELEASE ON MAY 14: R.E.M. (Green, 25th Anniversary Reissue)
BIG PICTURE: R.E.M. was truly ahead of its time. A quarter of a century ago, they already knew that in order find success in the music industry, you need to name something after a colour. Black by Pearl Jam, Yellow by Cold
Play, Red by Taylor Swift, Pink by... well, actually just Pink -- where would they all be without the ingenuity of Michael Stipe and company? Green was R.E.M.'s iconic sixth album. It is remastered for this two-disc release that includes a live compilation from the group's final 1989 Green World Tour performance in -- where else -- Greensboro, North Carolina. The live show tracks include earlier fan favourites such It's the End of the World as We Know It (And I Feel Fine) and The One I Love.
FORECAST: Kermit was wrong. It's easy being Green -- and even easier listening to it. I only hope this special package includes liner notes with the lyrics for It's the End of the World as We Know It (And I Feel Fine) so I finally learn how to sing more than just the chorus. (On a side note: For aspiring musicians out there, I don't think Lavender, Magenta or Brown are taken yet. I'd name your band, song or album in a hurry. You can send me a royalty cheque later.)
