A new video entry has been added:
Monumental. I wasn't sure who would have the balls to go first.
Good effort. User onebedroom decided to only use the studio footage and intersperse it with some lyric shots. I think it suits the song well as it's upbeat and rocky and the live-rock feel of the studio shots go well with that.
It will be interesting to see how people move onto more varied and original uses of the footage - street scenes, acoustic performances. I'm going to try get in on the act but my amateur effort may never see the light of day.
I know this is largely unprecendented but I have a question on "etiquette". Does the addition of one's own footage into the mix render your offering invalid or is it wide-open?
Anyway, well done onebedroom - you've made history and set the marker!!

I say open it up completely! If you want to use non of the footage then use non of it. I would love to see some creative people here continue to make videos for future singles if they get the chance.

Bravo! Very well done, I really enjoyed that. If I had any video editing skills at all I would give it a shot, but alas, I'd have no clue where to begin!

For my money, that beats the official video hands down. I believe this would actually make people want to buy the song - it's kinetic, it's got energy. All the things, basically, that the official video lacks. Which is a shame because, as this proves, all the material was there.

I don't dislike the official promo and think Vincent Moon has been a kindred spirit in REM's vision, but I think it would have been a great idea to release the different parts on the website before the official one came out and then have fans put together a video without a finished version being seen first.

I think that NinetyNights is brilliant and clearly Moon is a talented guy. But for some reason, he - with direction from the guys, I'm sure - has made an anti-video, a promo that doesn't sell the song at all. But if that's what they want, that's what they want.
Read the earlier post about "etiquette". Oops, didn't think this was anything superserious...just something to have fun with, hope no one minds my own video.
